Red dot scope range?

Hi,

Thinking about getting a dot scope for one of my rifles but haven't used one before.

What sort of useful range can I expect from one of these?

Any difference between brands other than build quality for these things?

A decent one should work for you up to around 100 metres.

Light intensity is one difference between brands. If it's underpowered the dot can be tough to see in bright conditions.

Get one with a strong or adjustable dot.

I'd agree with that. Beyond that the relative dot size is too obstructive.

Depends on the size of your target too, as the size of the dot increase you'll obviously lose sight of a rabbit before you lose sight of a fox.

I agree with all of the above, 100m on a good day though, but that being said it depends on the brand/model... red dot scopes were originally intended for snap shooting at close ranges just like laser devices and i've used a few of them most notably L-3 EOTech 552 HWS (too big and chunky, not really a fan) and the BURRIS SUB-MINIATURE RED DOT SIGHT which is absolutely brilliant.

There are a lot of brands doing red dot sights now but a lot of them seem to have forgotten what they were originally intended for.
