Scope repairs.

Post by Oldbloke » 08 Sep 2024, 7:22 pm

I have a (iirc) Weaver 1.5 - 5 x 20 wide view scope. Must be close to 30 yrs old.

In good nick, BUT it's obviously been damp inside as the objective lens has "water stains" inside.

Is it feasible to dismantle and clean scopes at home?
Or get them repaired?
Anyone experienced?

Malcolm Eames and the other is Rod Fielder. Both are trained competent technicians that generally only work on Euro optical gear.

Can vouch for Rod Fielder. He repaired my Grandad's old Lyman All-American 20x target scope, which had de-laminated objective lens and overall age-related wear. Rod done an excellent job.

I would recommend you just go online to “Optical Repairers”, fill out the service form and just just explain the issue and ask for a quote. Malcolm will give you an estimate then you can ask yourself if it’s worth it.
I reckon it will not be worth fixing.
