Focus Free

Post by Die Judicii » 11 Jul 2014, 11:33 pm

Hi all,
Some years back I was in a fishing store that specialized in gear for professional fishermen.

They had a table of mixed goods they wanted to clear, and in amongst it all was a box containing a fairly big set of Binoculars with ruby red lenses.

Labelled as being "Focus Free", I picked them up and tried them while waiting to be served.

They seemed to be absolutely phenominal, and true to their claim.

Unfortunately I cant remember the brand or the price, even though I did think at the time they were cheap. ( probably being a "clearance item" )

Being in a hurry, I didn't ask any questions about them or buy them.

Damm Damm Damm :x :x :x

Any members have any experience with Focus Free optics?

Some...

I don't really understand how the different optics work mechanically and how they can be focused at nothing and still have magnification... but the 'focus free' binos rely on your eyes to do the focusing and have no manual adjustment.

You know what manual binos are obviously...

Pros and cons to me, at ranges where my eyes were up to the task they were great. When I couldn't focus though the binos because useless, so it's a mixed bag.

Sounds like your eyes must be allright if they worked so good.

Hi "Old Fart",

Thanks for the info, and yes, what you say makes sense.

Maybe I better not chase a pair because when I tried the one on special, it WAS a number of years back, and my eyesight now wouldn't match what it used to be.

Alas, sigh.

Cheers.

I got caught with a free-focus scope that way....The scope is a 4-9x44, which is fine for 100-300m/yd, but when you get closer, you have to adjust the magnification, and that defeats the object altogether...yep..stay away...it is also a pain when the eyes are not what they used to be...

They're making some progress with these printed and grown organs.

Printing them is one thing, installing them at home by yourself in your office is going to be another

I read the other day they've made the first entire organ.
