Illuminated scopes? Leupold VX-R or other?

Post by howtow » 03 Oct 2013, 7:01 pm

Hi all,

Looking for some feedback on illuminated scopes.

Got my eye on one of the Leupold VX-R series, probably the 4-12.

I've had a brief look through a few in the store, but obviously it's light out during business hours so can't really get a feel for what they're like in the field.

Recommendations / feedback?

What times they're useful and not?

Cheers.

Not big on fancy reticles either. Regular dot reticle or something similar/minimal will suit.

Leupold has a good reputation obviously. I'm sure you'd be happy with one.

Check out the Nikon Monarch series. I've just ordered one of these with the mil-dot illuminated reticle.

Other reticle options available too obviously...

Expecting a few weeks delay still as it's slow shipping from the US, but happy to give you feedback in due course if you're not in a mad rush to pick something up sooner.

Nikon? I know they've got a good name for cameras, but rifle scopes?

Not better off to go with a firearm specialist brand?

Nikon don't just make cameras. They do some seriously high end lenses and other optics for things like medical imaging.

No reason to think their scopes couldn't be excellent quality.

I've got a cheap Meopta illuminated scope which does the job.
