New Leupold scope run out of elevation

Post by Lorgar » 19 Oct 2014, 7:44 am

Not happy yesterday...

I've had my old Ruger sitting around for a few months, finally got to scoping it so I had a backup rifle for taking friends to the range of whatever else. I picked up a VX-1, mounted it and headed out.

I'm sighting in at 50m and am about 1.5 feet low. Trying to adjust and I find out out of elevation :?

Scope must be screwed... Great...

Aaaand then I realise I've mounted it sidewards

Made me happier... for the price of looking dumber in front of my friends

Sort of....

It's sighted in at 100 now, but still on sidewards

That'll do for now, I'll fix it later.

I don't mean I put it on backwards :P It's rotated 90 degrees too far. Instead of elevation dial on top and windage on the right, I had elevation on the left and windage on top.

I'm used to using my Bushnell 6500 which has the side focus dial on the left. I just dropped the Leupold on with the dial on the left without even thinking.

Ah well.

Yep, At the range the other day and wanted to more my group 1 1/4" to the left, so moved dial said amount, fired another 5 rounds.. The group was still 1 1/4" to the right but now 1 1/2" low. Don't know how that happened!

update - Monday, 1st Dec.

Well I got back up to the range to see if I've sorted out the scope problem All I did was reverse the scope in the mounts and sent 5 rounds down at 100 yds and bugger me, it worked.

The only small problem is that the targets seen a long, long way away now. Might have to get a much higher magnification scope - good Christmas present.

Yep, not the "best group" but will do for now. Wind was a bit stronger and blustery than I thought but will do.
