Ruger Scout rifle scope

Post by tapper » 11 Dec 2014, 6:07 pm

Hi guys,

I'd like some recommendations for scopes for the Ruger Scout in a scout setup on the forward rail. Not the back rings.

New to the Scout setup and not sure what to look for?

Thanks :)

I'm using a Lynx red dot scope. I'm happy with it. Not pin point accurate past 100 yards but it's not meant to be. It'll hit a pig sized target no worries.

If I had an endless supply of money I'd put an eotech holographic with flip up 3x magnifier

Only other scope I would consider would be a designated scout scope. Most likely the Burris Scout 2-7. Read a couple reviews from US gun mags recently and they seem really good value

you dont need a scope on the scout....but if you do - please - dont put a standard eye relief (normal) rifle scope on top - mounted rear.

Sorry for the guys that do it... but rear mount scope on Scouts like ******.... :?

Install a long eye relief type of FORWARD mounted scope. say 2 or 2.5x...
If you want high mag and long range target... buy another rifle.

I dont have one, but a handle one and the short barrel makes it a super fast handling set up.... a scope just puts the balance out

These blokes don't seem to have a problem with a rear mounted scope…mine is set up the same way…these blokes made the scope..

Yeah, but these blokes have been "professionally coached" too!

For example - note the position of the left arm supporting the rifle, both with and with out the sling wrap around, also reloading - how bolt handle is held and operated (1-2,3-1), not 'palmed" (my pet HATE!) and also the position and angle of the right arm. Note too, the position and angle of the shooter tracking target.

All very, very professional. Watch, learn and practice...

Cheers.

That's the idea.

Just struggling with going the dot option like Baldrick or a minimum 1 or 2 + magnification option.

I'd ask someone at the local range for a shot but everyone has normal scopes on them so it's no use.

Nope,

Had a sticky beak at a couple of dot scopes but only the cheap stuff LGS has out on display.

Never took the time to look at the behind the counter ones but now I will.

Aimpoint's pretty big bikkies for a 1x though, aren't they? $600 or $700 I think from memory. They'll wanna be good for that much.

They are excellent optics, but there's no such thing as a free lunch.

And don't listen to 1290 with that idea about a long eye relief forwarded mounted scope....absolute rubbish. Mount them in the normal spot, still unlimited eye relief, no parallax error....and the an Aimpoint H34S 1X red dot costs $800.00.....cry once.

Have a scout with a regular Joe $400 3-9x40. Mounted at the rear, where most scopes are mounted. At lowest power eye box is huge and very fast to acquire target.

It's a rough and tumble rifle. Don't over complicate it.

I've got that in the other rifle already, trying something new with the Scout so want to do the 'scout' setup with the forward rail.

Just for a change.

Try a Leupold VXR Scout , Played with one on a Ruger Gunsight , eye relief is great , decent magnification range ( i think its 1.5-5 ?) and good optical quality to boot !
