Best rifle scope for the money?

Post by meateater » 14 Oct 2013, 2:01 pm

Hi guys,

Like the title says... What do you think the best rifle scope for the money is?

Don't want some $5,000 scope because it's "the best", looking for something that's good value for money as well.

It's to go on a sporter that's used as a bit of an all rounder. Some range time for fun and some hunting.

I'm sort of picturing $700-$1,000, but could stretch a little higher if there was a significant gain to be had.

Cheers.

IMO Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50.

About $950 for the scope, more than enough range for hunting and will work at the range further than a sporter will need.

I don't think you could go past Nikon for value for money and quality. They know what they're doing when it comes to optics and have been in the game for a long time.

I've got a Zeiss scope, which is amazing glass, but its expensive.

Nikon, whilst not as good, is still great and I use it on a few of my rifles. Highly recommend it for people on a budget.

I'm a big fan of Weaver.

Got a 40/44 which was cheap as chips and looks more than fine to me.

I have an 'Elite' series scope, not the 6500.

Doesn't have the same glass coatings for condensation, but still a top scope and for less.

If you don't think the glass coatings are needed I reckon the Elite is worth a look.

I've got a Viper HS too.

Does the trick for me and Vortex don't cost a fortune.

Vortex are the current "popular value for money" scopes people are turning too - a nice increase in sales throughout Aus.
Ill still happily plug Weaver :)

I came down to Weaver or Vortex when I got mine.

The Weaver was nice too and cheap as chips.

I had a look through a Redfield Revolution the other day looked really clear and at only $240 it's very affordable. Owned by Leupold too
