Sun optics any good?

Post by roob » 15 Feb 2015, 8:33 pm

Sun Optics USA are advertised in SSAA mag a lot, you guys have probably seen them.

Anyone used? Prices seem ok from some searching, thought I'd ask before I call around trying to find dealers or going for a drive.

Thinking for a hunting rifle, game size.

Thoughts?

hey roob, about 12 months ago I was looking for a cheap 2-7 or 3-9 to get a rifle shooting.

I was looking around the penrith gun show and looked over the table at the lynx optics stand. I picked up a 3-9X40 sun optics scope and was blown away by the glass for $170. in the poorly lit "tent" it was certainly bright so i bought it and have not been disappointed, it's accounted for a few bunnies out to 100m. I've loaned it to a mate to get his 30-30 running and i'm sure i would have heard about it had it fallen apart LOL

I'd happily buy another one should i need something in that price range

I'm using one of their red dots. It only cost $200. It's clear, holds it zero and the adjustments are accurate. My only complaint would be the dot is a little on the large side but that's my fault for not choosing a smaller size.

I don't own, but have had a look. For the money they're certainly good, as Chronos says.

Nothing like the Chinese cheapies off ebay made of plastic.

Chronos and Aussier, sounds good.

Baldrick, how large is large? Remember how many MOA it is?

I'll have a look tomorrow night and let you know. It covers the majority of the square targets I use at 100m which I'm pretty sure is a 4" square so I'd say roughly 4 MOA.

For hunting it's a good size, just makes precise aiming harder for when I'm sighting in the rifle/ doing load development.

4 MOA seems pretty standard.

I know pinpoint accuracy isn't needed for hunting but something about that much coverage puts me off :(

A few of the brands make 2 MOA dots scopes. Look into those.

Made a slight error. My scope is actually a Lynx not a Sun (same importer). They come with a 3, 5 or 10 MOA dot. I think mine is the 3 MOA
