Schmidt and Bender 5-25x56 PMII

Post by Lyam » 15 Feb 2015, 8:43 pm

Was at the range this weekend and had some good fortune.

Ended up next to a bloke with his DTA who was breaking in a new scope, the Schmidt and Bender 5-25x56.

That thing is nothing short of amazing. 25x looking at 500m it was crystal clear, a fantastic scope. Shooting the DTA wasn't half bad either ;)

The thought of racing to the store and looking to buy one occurred to me

As soon as I win the lottery though... I was asking about the cost of his setup and the scope alone was $4,500! Damn.

That'll be the last time I use one  but it was good fun.

They're great scopes fo sure.

I've got a Schmidt Bender 10x42 Klassik which isn't even there top and and it's by far the best scope I've used for clarity.

Funny enough I did talk to the boys at Safari about these scopes but decided on the Kahles K624i with Mil 6 reticle. I do however like the S&B 12-50x56 cause I like to see the reds of the eyes as I squeeze the trigger :) Anyone considering a major purchase better get in soon cause many importers are about to increase their prices by %10-%20 to compensate for our weaker $. On a $4100 scope that could add an extra $450 or more at the checkout.

If you want clarity it costs money.

I like the S&B ultrashort PMII.

What swayed you to the Kahles in the end?

I've used Khales for 25+ years on the big recoilers and can't fault them. Think it was around the $3200 mark price wise compared to $4100 and I didn't see a $900 increase in clarity or features. That and it was on the shelf in the shop at the time with the reticle I wanted so I grabbed it.

Can't argue with $900 still in the pocket.

Schmidt and Bender make top-shelf scopes all round, you won't find a disappointing one.

Price as everyone has said is the issue. At $3,000 - $5,000 you've got to be very serious about your shooting to justify one.

I've been considering selling a few older shooters to replace with one top shelf.

Still deciding on the rifle but the Schmidt Bender 2,5-10x56 Zenith is the scope I'm looking at.

Amazing sharpness and light gathering in it.

Looks to be an awesome scope, very interested to get your impressions after shooting it. I'm not sure how they can justify the extra $2k cost over the PMII 12-50x56 though.
