Old Churchill scope

Post by headspace » 25 Feb 2015, 8:48 pm

I was hunting some dogs on a neighbours place yesterday and after we got back to the house he asked if I was interested in a scope he had. I said yes of course and he bought out this old 4x scope with the name Churchill on it. It had the old leather leans covers and was mounted in some old "Field" brand mounts. The crosshairs are quite fine, and the scope seems pretty well built and solid. It's nice and cleat too even though both lenses are a bit grubby. Anyone heard of these scopes? There's no sign of where it was made either.

I have seen a few Churchill Mausers but not a Churchill scope . I can only think it's possibly the same company .

Bloke with the same problem
http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=398727

I recently got a scope that came on my No4, 6x Sniper Gold, Made in Japan.
Can't find a record of them anywhere, surprisingly clear glass.

Swapped it off for a more appropriate Leupold VX1 2-7.

Will keep the old one for a spare.

Hi John,

Churchill I know make a range of scope mounts, but I've never see a scope by them in recent years. Including stores I know stock their mounts.

I previously had a pair of their Weaver see-through mounts on a Weatherby. Good enough quality.

I know that doesn't help you for making glass but that's all I can give you.

Tried searching but there is bugger all info on them out there.

All I could find was 1 person selling one and one asking.

Seems like they've been out of the game for a while maybe

No mate, just a big blank. It's probably made by some other company for someone putting "Churchill" on everything. Seems to work OK though. I gave it away to a mate of mine who was having some scope worries.

Bit annoying you find brands doing that. 10 different ones with the exact same thing.

No pride in their product huh

Worse is the number of fakes going around for things these days.

Definitely some fake Aimpoints going around if you missed KW's topic on that.

In the automotive industry it's known as "badge engineering."

They've even been doing knock-off cars over there for years.

Rolls Royce, Merc, BMW, you name it.
