Warning: Used FAKE Aimpoint M4 $400 dealer offer

Post by KWhorenet » 31 Mar 2015, 1:34 am

Watch for a 'UsedGuns' add in the next couple of days for a 2nd hand Aimpoint for approx. $400 possibly unknown model...ahem!

Anyhow, gets talking to one nice old chap/dealer of Aimpoint red dots.

I wont name and shame here as I will be re calling this Aimpoint dealer again today for a chat.

He says they have a used Aimpoint there if I'm interested and that it has both red and green dots.... right :silent:

He says they'd take $400 for it. Couldn't tell me the model of it. :unknown: ummm yeah ok

Sends me a photo as requested. See below.

So I do some searching around and come across the Aimpoint M4 model.

Looks the same albeit the one he's offering has poorly aligned white lettering that shouldn't be on the battery tube, the battery +- should be on top not bottom on tube and the 'GREEN' dot thing

Just to confirm my suspicions I found some with the white lettering on them for sale with red+green dots etc etc for the princely sum of
< $50 USD

The title of this add even stated red-green dot (so buyer beware).

Anyhow sorry to bang on about it but I think he's been had and is unwittingly selling a counterfeit.

I surely wouldn't want any of you or your friends falling for it either.

Pre-emptive warning

Guys, if you know this or another dealer who's potentially in the same boat DO NOT name them here.

Regardless of whether or not it is/was done unwittingly and was an honest mistake (as is likely), the forum is not to be used for naming names and we won't get embroiled in any arguments surrounding such problems.

It would be a shame to have to delete the warning and leave potential buyers exposed because people can't help themselves but that's what'll happen if they do.

Use the price and images in evaluating your purchase, but no names here.
See you on the firing line.

All seems to come out of bloody china.

Almost no such thing as copyright there. They can mass produce fakes all day long without anyone coming down on them.

Post by KWhorenet » 31 Mar 2015, 2:07 pm

So I got confirmation from the US Aimpoint Tech Support that it is fake. Today the dealer confirmed it was a green & red dot...proof enough as red is the only dot they do.

Long story short, I called the dealer & informed him. Seems he has a customer who sold him TWO of these clones for good $$$ and a massive deceptive profit.

This dealer doesnt sell many items so wasnt full bottle on whats what. His regular may have pulled the wool over his eyes...

Anyhow done my good deed. Feel dudded as I would have snapped it up if it were genuine. I waited for them to offer me what I wanted at cost but NOOOOOOO BINGOOOOO!

Oh well after a morning stalk listening to croaking and getting huffed and puffed at when cracked a damned stick, happy to close the left eye and suck it up with the old pre 64 irons

I think the best advice they give is the cost....they are not a cheap scope.

I'd try a $50 one, they might be ok .... would suck to pay big $$$ for a fake though.

Yeah. It's one thing to get sent a knock-off shirt and have spent $30 on it but $500 for a fake scope is going to really hurt.

Aimpoint scopes currently retail for about $870.00 + rings from an AUTHORISED DEALER.

Thats about $1000.00 all up for a 1X scope. You just simply have to pay for quality.

Only purchase from an AUTHORISED DEALER and you will get the real scope not a copy....but you have to pay for it, they are not cheap.

They were offering me a 'USED' item as an alternative to the pricey new model.
This dealer orders new stock from Beretta they told me.
Yeah I saved them from a bad reputation and embarrassment trying to sell the multiple $48 'AliExpress' chinese knockoffs for $400 ea.

Not really sure if they're genuinely happy with me or pissed I didn't blindly buy it like others before me... anyway there's no free drink in it for me.

As least you got it sorted. I'm surprised they are an authorised dealer trying to flog an el cheapo copy. You learned the hard way but it all came good in the end.

The business is an authorised dealer. At the end of the day the guy behind the counter is just a guy behind a counter.

Who knows how familiar he is with the stuff or if he particularly cares enough to pay much attention.

Companies are putting more work into combating fakes these days from what I read.

Beyond just losing a sale, it would hurt them more when someone unknowingly gets a fake then bags the genuine brand to everyone know because of their experience.

As long as the countries which allow the fakes to openly be made though little will change.
