Post by alan j » 19 Apr 2015, 8:18 am

Hi does anyone know if the dovetail size on the cz 452 special (beech stock) made for aussie market is 11mm or 3/8. I have searched the net and some sites say 11mm and some 3/8. thanks

Well i picked up the 452 special up today and started to fit the 11mm mounts that i bought on expert advice from the winchester website (not). Much to my surprise the dovetails were 13mm. The 11mm didnt go close . This is why i posted the original question hoping that some one who owned a 452 special could confirm the size needed. I checked two more rifles in the shop and they were also 13mm. So those arm chair experts who rely on the website may now realize they are often not correct .

You may have been better getting the mounts AFTER getting the Rifle.

3/8 is 12.7mm

11mm is 11mm

Even if you owned one you would have to remember the size dovetail mounts you fitted. Depending on what part of the world they are manufactured, being rifle and/or mounts they are measured differently. Some are measured across the top and some are measured at the bottom of the dovetail.

You would have expected the Australian Distributor to list them correctly. I say distributor because CZ make rifles for three different markets, Europe, Australia and CZ USA so they do vary.

Now, the CZ 452 may well have 11mm Dovetails (measured at the bottom, narrowest point) and the mounts purchased may have been 11mm at the top (measured at the widest point) and / or vis versa which makes it bloody hard to get right.

Even the old faithful Brno .22 (CZ) had different dovetails depending on model. My Brno Model 2 (1965) has 16mm Dovetails the same as my CZ 527, Tikka T3 and a few others. Brno Model 2E (1985) has 3/8" dovetails.

Goes to show.
