Got my first nikko stirling!

Post by Heckler303 » 14 Sep 2015, 5:37 pm

So after doing some ebay browsing, I came across a bid for nikko stirling 4x32 Silver Crown (Japanese make with full steel tube), and I placed down a bid of 40 or so dollars for it, and soon later the bid ended and I got it as the highest bidder there. After just a week of postage, it arrives fully intact and wow. It's super clear and the focus allows it to be near-perfect for my eyes. No rings come with it, but that's ok, as ones for it come super cheap too. I'll attach a lens cover to it later when it's finally on a rifle and not sitting inside a postman's tube.

Just wanted to say I'm happy with it for what it is. I'll post pics of it later on

Hope you have fun with it.

Probably many times better than a modern day Made in China piece of rubbish.

Makes me think about the collection of old scopes I have that were pulled of various old rifles purchased over many years. Even paying eBay 10% commission would at least get them out of the house.

Now that is a thought, just got to find them amoungst all the rubbish in my shed.

Old reloading presses, dies etc.

Like the old Nikko Stirling built in Japan, which was pretty good quality for the day. Some of the old gear is perhaps not the Antz Pants but it was quality stuff that will last for many years.

Sometimes the old gear is easily better than new, modern, cut-corner made in china stuff. Not always, but I think scopes for the most part fit this bracket

Well, I got a nice picture of the scope. Great clarity and the sights are spot-on.

The only bad thing is that little critter got away, as I still haven't got something to attach it to yet. :unknown: .

Someday I'll get him though. Someday.....

I also just received a Nikko Stirling 4x32 from eBay. The seller said it was bought in 1984 and was in great condition and it came with rings that don't have a mark on them either. He wasn't wrong, it looks brand new and oh I love the glass in the older Japanese made scopes; they are so much better than the budget range rubbish you pay for these days.

The picture in this little scope is so bright and clear!! They are a lot nicer than any of the budget scopes like Redfield or Vortex etc.

Can anybody provide a suggestion of what the parallax would be set on this scope. While having a look through it, I'm fairly confident its not set as a rimfire scope so its likely to be parallax free at around 150 yards. I have not been able to find any specifications for it. I plan on resetting the parallax for 40m and putting it on a .22 but was just interested to know what its current setting is on.

Any and all comments will be appreciated.
Cheers,

Goldie

Yep love my jap made Tascos too, very clear and bright, got a philippines made Tasco and it's surprisingly good too, was able to read a street sign some 200+m away with it at around 8.30pm at night (Daylight savings) so can't complain about that side of things, however the turrets are rubbish!

Nothing wrong with the Nikko Stirling! I've got a 3-9x50mm on the 22lr. Goes great!

Ive got some old Simmons that have been in the cupboard for 20 years. I'm going to have to pull a couple out to fit to some new toys. I bought some Stoney Point turrets hoping that they would fit but a no go. See how long I can go with them. May have to be for a while as funds are low. I may even sell a new toy to buy a bigger better scope for another gun.
Yours looks the goods they just need fitting to flat shooting rifles that you know the range you will be shooting.
