I'm going to say it, Nightforce scopes are over rated?

Rifle scopes, iron sights and optics. Spotting scopes and target acquisition devices.

I'm going to say it, Nightforce scopes are over rated?

I'm pretty late on posting this, but here it is...

I went to the Melbourne shot show a few months ago to check out the latest gear on offer, and there was a Nightforce scope stall there.

I hadn't had the opportunity to look through one before, and after all the hype I was expecting something great when I looked through it.

I was sort of expecting it to be like going from VHS to Blue Ray in scope terms.

Looked through half a dozen, and was pretty unimpressed :(

Big zoom is fancy and all that, but quality was meh? Reticles meh?

Looking through some high end Leupold or Bushnell's in the past, much better IMO?

Can't see what the fuss is about :(

Have you looked through one out in the field or just in the store?

Comparing a Bushnell to a night-force is taboo!!!

What are you shooting too?

Over rated for busting bunnies at 100m, obviously...

But for 1,200m target shooting?

I have it on very good authority, that Lightforce don't make their scopes.

They are inspected and badged with the lightforce name.

I can't recall the actual maker, but will do my best to find out again.

Personally I prefer to cut out the middle man, just as with their big dollar rifles... All high quality big name parts, off the shelf, well put together.

It was in a large expo centre place.

Looked around the inside of the expo, and out the doors to outside.

Not a huge test I admit, but it was just... Meh?

Image quality didn't seem great. Scope felt good enough, in the same way that tonnes of other scopes do too...

Just, meh...

Considering their rep as a military style optic I think they're overpriced considering they don't offer front focal plane reticles but I've never heard them criticized for the quality of their glass

I couldn't criticize them for anything, but I couldn't really say anything amazing about them either.

Then there is the price...
