Easy way to work out scope mount size?

Post by rsj223 » 07 Apr 2016, 7:46 pm

Bought a Tikka and scope separate and now need mounts and will be at a local military show on the weekend and hope to buy the mounts.
Is there a way to work out if I need med or high?

This is 1 way I use to calculate the bare minimum height required then I add 5mm to the number to allow a little clearance. If using bases with built-in elevation ill add 15mm but the way I use most is to buy a couple sets of rings then return the ones I didn't use :)

X = Min base height from rail to bottom of the ring assuming no elevation is included in the mount.

For a 56mm objective on a 30mm tube

X= (56/2)-(30/2)
28-15=13mm

Thanks Brett I worked out the size, no luck at the show so it looks like the web.
I have a scope with a 30mm tube and not sure to get Tally rings or the DNZ one piece ones and opinions?

I have both Tally and DNZ. Both good with quality fit and finish. 6 to one, half a dozen to the other. DNZ are cheaper but on a heavier recoil rifle the Talley have heavier duty options.
