You can do both with a hunting scope but not both with a scope fitted with a parallax adjustment, IMO. In a hunting situation you just would not have time to adjust the parallax, before the game took off. Of course, your hunting situation might differ from my experience, which consisted of flighty rabbits and "walk around" hunting. You might be sniping at a fixed distance, for instance.
Just leave the parallax set at 100m
works fine doing so but I do agree that parallax adjustment isn't needed for a walkaround type outfit, varminting it isn't a drawback at all, may help but honestly I don't bother with parallax adjustable scopes anymore as I'm not shooting groups and can't say I've noticed any real diff with or without parallax adjustment.
I say to the OP buy what you want and what you think will suit your needs, worst comes to worst you can always sell or keep it and put it to use on another outfit one day.
remember though that more lenses equals reduced light transmission as a rule so don't go whacking some dirty great hubble telescope on it unless you really need/want too, also higher mag shows up your breathing and movement more which can make life difficult for off hand shots at times, anyway suck it and see mate, you soon workout if you've made the right or wrong decision.
