I've never fussed much over rings to be honest, mostly just used Leupold because... Why not?

Always held the scopes on, never had a problem.

Screw heads are important. If slot-head, you need a hollow ground screwdriver but even though I grind my own, one of my slots is jiggered. Allen key heads (socket head cap screws) are good and torx-head screws are possibly over-kill. There is really no good news here for you mate; by the time you spend money on a set of hollow ground screwdrivers you will have doubled you $40. That's a guess BTW. As for rings, the 2 screw per ring have always been good enough for my 30/06, for example. Lapping is nice but adds more money. Sorry mate, it's not only complicated but Expensive. Good Luck.

Didn't need to lap my DNZ game reaper. Mounted it up and zero was only a couple of clicks off mechanical zero!

Burris, leopold, warne, weaver and even vortex all make good rings, it really comes down to what you prefer, what looks good and what is available. I usually buy rings locally incase they don't clear the scope objective bell from the barrel.

I like leopold two piece rings and bases, take a bit of setting up but are solid and should never move, on a rifle with an open action like the howa 1500 it's great as you don't have a rail getting in the way of cases being ejected.

Two piece weaver bases are another option if you want to use QD rings to access your open sights

If it's for a CZ452 sportsmatch rings are the go.

When I finally get around to purchasing a new scope for my haenel jaeger I'm going to buy trentech rings from BRT, as they are precision milled to perfectly fit a genuine picatinny rail, Australian made in Brisbane to boot.

The finish on the DNZ product was very good and smooth. No damage to scope at all.

Ok... so b4 u all start hating on me... I am not saying they are good quality and I am not recommending them. I usually buy good brands. I just want to share my experience with a little Chinese experiment I have done...

T3 varmint in 223 with 6-24 bushnell. I bought a seat of dirty filthy cheap Chinese crap quick release rings from banggood.com. cost me 10 bucks.

Had them on the rifle for about 5 months I think and the rifle consistently shoots half moa.

Just an experiment I thought I'd share...

INCOMING!!!!

I need to ask...how much did the scope cost? I've witnessed several incidents of an expensive scope being mounted with cheap ass rings being damaged due to recoil. I buy rings based on recoil, big guns get Barrett / Era-Tac or NightForce rings, Mid recoilers get Sako Optilok or Leupold while the low recoilers tend to get the budget line of the Leupold rings. I only lap the rings on the big rifles and I pay attention to torqueing the rings properly and using Loctite 222.

I like burris signature zee rings, they use little pastic insert cup things so you get full contact on the scope without marking stuff up to much, you can also get different off sets of plastic inserts to correct any missalignment or moa issues, fairly cheap too

Had/have Leupold on mine.

Never felt the need to try anything else as they've always done the job.
