Loctite on scope screws worth doing?

Post by sha » 22 Nov 2013, 8:03 am

Youtube's great for killing time at work :D

Back to my question though...

To mount my scopes I do the usual method of working down the screws bit by bit in a figure eight.

I see though that some people do this but then take out the screws 1 by 1, add a drop of Loctite then put them back in.

Will all scope screws come lose eventually, is that the problem?

Or just people being fussy?

If you go that way try using, Loctite ® 248™ Threadlocker Stick, Medium Strength/Removable.

Nope, I wouldn't bother.

Just people being overly pedantic about nothing.

I have had the screws in one of my scope rings come undone slightly under recoil so now I loctite all of mine. As said above use the loctite that's designed to be removed otherwise you'll have all sorts of trouble should you ever need to undo them. Also I add the loctite before I tighten the screws the first time, undoing them to add loctite would be counterproductive.

I think you'll find he means remove one, loctite it, then screw it back in fully again, then repeat the process for the rest one by one.

Not remove them all at once and start from scratch.

If we're talking about the same video that is...

Yeah I get that but you'd lose the advantage of adjusting them one by one if you remove them one by one

Well it's been two months and a few hundred rounds without any loctite on the scope screws.

No problems.

Not worth doing it seems.
