3-9 vs 4-12

Too easy. Another rifle I'm probably looking at getting is a .308 in the future, so if I'm not happy with the 3-9 in the end I'll just grab a 4-12 with the 308 and swap the scope. Ultimate plan for me personally is a .22 for target, 25-06 loading 75g v-max for varminting, 308 for deer/adventure.

Or (just to play devils advocate) get the scope you wanted from somewhere else, and convert your deposit into something else, ammo is always good!

Hi 308cool,

I set my rifle up for 10-200m hunting with a 3.5-14x50 scope. I use the bottom half for hunting (mostly just left at 8x as most of my shots are 50-120m and gives me 7mm exit pupil for night time vision, but I'll put it on 3.5x if i expect some close shots or in thicker terrain). I use the top half of the zoom range for target/varmint shooting out to 400m, it sure is useful being able to go up to 14x, even at 10-12x zoom it's good for testing out new ammunition, testing my skills, etc. I would mention that I find having an adjustable parallax past for 10x is really helpful too.

Sorry to bump up this thread by thought I'd update you all. Got my pta and before I went into the store to pickup the kit I gave them a call just to see wether the shipment of 4-12 came in early or something. They still don't have an exact idea of when it's coming in but said they have a 4-12x50 with a bdc reticle. So I might just go that. I wanted the standard. Are there any downsides to a bdc? Regardless I'm going in on Monday to pick it it all up . Will post some pics

Na, not really. I've got a BDC on the 243w and it's just a matter of sighting the rifle in and setting up targets at various distances and see where the shot falls and getting an idea of what range the dots on the BDC coincide.

I use 4-12 on anything bigger than a 22lr. Cant beat being able to put it exactly where you want it
