Cleaning patches

Post by colinbentley » 06 Apr 2017, 3:42 pm

I have been using patches I cut from a roll . I recently went into a gun store to buy a roll but they didn't have any but offered me a pack of 1000 individual patches for $60. I was horrified at the price so went elsewhere and bought the roll for $15. Are the individual patches so superior. I can buy them online for less than half that .

Na, but somebody has to pay for cutting them to size. I just use a roll of 4x2 and cut my own .22lr, 243win and 12g.

I use pre-cut patches in the smaller calibers, and the roll for larger bores.

Does DNA have copper solvent properties we didn't know about? Now i think about it, it'd probably work ok as a black powder residue solvent.

Shooting is expensive enough without having to pay through the nose for cleaning materials. Use what is available and cheap, I say.

All you cashed up wasteful yuppies buying cleaning patches make me feel very down market.
I have been using cut up, worn out, flannelette pajamas forever.
Best ones are light coloured and have vertical stripe patterns that make a good cutting guide.
Cut them into 2" wide strips and layer them onto a roll then cut as required.

I use the Egyptian cotton napkins that are served with my beetroot latte and quinoa salad.

Or I buy 12g patches then cut them in half for .30 cal or quarters for .22cal
