There are many who won't go for aluminium, and stick to steel.
Herein lies some problems, namely the issue of quality.
You can get steel rings that are cheap and nastie,,,,,, mainly the PRC brands.
You can get aluminium rings that are also sh!t,,,, but then again some are quite good.
I have a set of aluminium rings that are mounted on a .308 that have done a good job for years, but unfortunately there is no brand on them.
Leupold do good steel rings that are fairly easy on the pocket.
The PRC steel rings are usually pretty heavy, but not too bad for low recoil rifles like .17 and .22 rf
Just don't tighten those hex nuts too far or they will snap every time.
I have 2 sets of those on little rifles, but have replaced those bolts and nuts with better quality ones.
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!
I've come to realize that,,,,, the two most loving, loyal, and trustworthy females in my entire life were both canines.
