Bushnell banner 4-12x40 dusk-dawn or 3-12x40 rimfire?

Post by Bent Arrow » 13 Jul 2017, 5:12 pm

Hi.

I'm looking for a new scope for my 22lr, a bit of mixed target work, plinking and hunting. I'm trying to work out if the rimfire model is worth the extra $. Anybody got first hand experience with these scopes?

Cheers

I don't know what sort of money you're looking at for the Banner, but you can get the AR Optics 4.5-18x40 for $230 plus postage. It's a much better scope and focuses right down to 10 yards.

Sure, why not?

Have a Bushnell trophy 3-9x40 on my .222rem was about $180 new from eBay with a voucher, pretty good glass for the money although has a fair bit of vignetting in bright light, it does a reasonable job of gathering light late in the day. I wasn't too impressed with the cheaper Bushnell scopes last time I looked at them.

Just bought a Nikon prostaff 3-9x40 for my new-to-me BRNO model 2 was about $200 on eBay with discount and 10% extra off with a eBay wide voucher, should be a good scope.

I've looked through a Bushnell Banner before and it was pretty good for a cheap scope. I have a 3x12 rimfire on Cz455 22/17hmr combo and I really like it. I see the 3x12 for $215 and 6x18 rimfire model for $245.

I run two of the AR223 scopes on my Howa mini actions. One on my 204 and one on my 223. Blade is right about them focus right Down to close ranges. They are a bulky scope though(so if the Rimfire to a similar extent) for $230 the are extremely good value.

If it was just for general .22 hunting I'd go 3x12 Rimfire. You mentioned Target work? I'd be tempted to go something with 18X

I think the Banner series are just fine for daylight use on low-recoil rifles. They don't work so well in failing light in my experience. I wouldn't pay Aussie prices for them though - get them out of China off Ebay.

Have you been listening to 22Plinkster ;-)
It's three-to-nine-by-forty, not three-by-nine-by-forty :-)

It's true that the AR Optics is a bulky and heavy scope, but it's a minor downside considering the price. I decided I wanted the same scopes on all my rifles which is why I chose the AR Optics 4.5-18x40 223BDC. It works on everything.

Daylight use on a low recoil rifle........ That's the ticket. I looked at the rimfire models and decided the turrets weren't to my liking for this particular rifle. I bought the banner 4-12x40 from my local. Yes I could have gotten it cheaper from evil bay, but I'd rather pay a few extra $ and keep my local shop in business. I am self employed so I rack it up to good karma........My local knows me by first name the moment I walk in the door and chucked in a free set of rings, mounted and bore sighted the scope for nix.

Thanks for the opinions, much appreciated

If it was a dedicated target rifle I'd be happy to spend a lot more on glass. It's a bit of an all rounder, and the rifle my boy is learning on.

Its rainy here today and looking through it side by side with my zeiss conquest 4-12x50 it's seems like it's going to be fine for what I want it to do. Neither scope can hold there heads up against the clarity of my 8.5 x 42 swaro binoculars.....

has anyone looked at the Arctic Fox scopes. They have a few small models for L.A. or carbine rifles.
