Leupold scopes. Vx1 vs Vx2

Post by Kelsey Cooter » 02 Oct 2017, 5:36 am

Im looking at the differences between the vx1 scopes vs vx2. Im looking at putting one on a ruger 308 i have recently bought second hand. This gun is going to spend a lot of time in tractors so i dont want to spend heaps of money because its certainly not going to have a easy life.
Im thinking 3-9x40 or 4-12x40 with either the fine duplex or long range duplex. I know 4-12 may seem high but i tend to like shooting on 12 with the vx2 i currently have on my 223.

Will vx1 hold its zero as good as vx2? And is the glass noticeably different between the 2?

My experience for what it is worth, is you should do fine with a Leupold VX1. I have one on my Rem 700 308 I use in the bush & I have dropped it in the dirt, dropped it on rocks even, & it held its zero under duress.
But this is a set & forget scope, I always use the same load and don’t change my sight settings.

for what you have explained the vx1 would be fine IMO

Leupold vx1 3-9x40 $319 vx2 3-9 x40 $435 not much of a difference and the vx2 is a great scope as you already know ,never looked through a vx1 but the vx2 is a great scope for the price and warranty

but what's the difference between a VX1 and VX2, diff of $116 or a Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40mm for $305.00? I lay awake at night wondering what it is.

As I recall the only real difference is the light transmission.

The VX-2 has better quality/more advanced coatings for approx 5-6% more light transmission in an otherwise similarly spec scope.
