Rimfire specific scopes

Post by lapp » 19 Dec 2013, 8:03 am

G'day guys,

I'm a new forum member and shooter here, hopefully not too full of stupid questions though

Here is the first stupid question anyway :D

I see Nikon, Leupold and I'm sure other brands make scopes marketing specifically for rimfire rifles.

What's the difference from a rimfire scope and centrefire rifle scope?

Obviously there are quality things like glass, metal or plastic bodies and that kind of thing, but for just putting a crosshair over a target I'd have thought a scope is a scope...

I think from memory (double check yourself, I could be wrong) the Leupold series of rim scopes are just that because they're made ultra-light to go with light rifles.

Other than that, I think you'll find that most rimfire specific scopes have their parallax set for 50m for target shooting.

Hmm, annoying their website doesn't say.

In the features it just lists "Rimfire Parallax" as a feature.

Probably safe bet that it's 50m, but wouldn't hurt to spell it out...

Thanks guys.

Looking into it now I've learned a bit more and semi understand what I'm actually reading  it looks like the parallax focus the most common thing.

If it's not an adjustable scope the rimfire ones all seem set at 50m where the normal scopes are set at 100m.

Either way an adjustable one's best so I'll stick with that in future.

That's about the gist of it.

A bit cheaper to make a fixed parallax scope and lower your price a bit to get some sales I guess.

Not like parallax adjustment is some cutting edge feature though...

You hardly have to spend a fortune to get an adjustable scope.

Not sure why'd you bother really?

No, not saying that...

Just saying if you can make a scope that's otherwise the same as the competition but do it $30 cheaper or something...
