Impressed with current Leupold scopes

Post by tactice » 20 Dec 2013, 11:10 am

I was at my local today putting my eye to a few scopes and have to say I was very impressed with the current Leupold scopes.

To be fair, I have only had limited experience with Leupold in the past and the few I've looked through that belonged to mates have received a questionable level of care by the looks of them.

To the current stuff anyway...

For a hunting scope, and for $300 bucks, I thought the VX-1 3-9x was a nice little unit. Nothing amazing about it but clear, bright, good reticle and cheap as chips. You could definitely do worse for the money.

I was real impressed with the VX-II. Had a look through a few of the 6-18x reticles and they were clear and bright again, really fine reticle, great eye relief, and for $700 they're not exactly cheap, but that's hardly a fortune as scopes go either.

So yeah, I've said some unkind things about Leupold in the past but I've come around now :D

If you like them so much why don't you marry them?

Well, there is my useless comment for the day :P

The VX-II target reticles are very nice. Ultra thin but still distinct.

Not exactly peanuts for one, but far from the top end in terms of price.

Yup.

The VX-2 6-18x40mm Adj. Obj. with the target dot reticle is definitely a winner.

I think I'll end up with one of those on my bench .22 when I get it.

I just sighted my second Leupold scope yesterday VX-3 4.5-14 x 40 AO duplex on a Tikka T3 lite .243win and I have a VX-3 4.5-14 x 40 duplex on a savage 16 weather warrior 7mm-08.

My mate had only Leupolds on his rifles but is slowly changing up to Swarovski, he has 30+ rifles and work in gun retail.

He always steers me to Leupold Vx-3.

I've got a pair of low end Weaver and Bushnell scopes that I need to upgrade.

Currently looking at Leupold and the VX-1 3-9x50mm for my hunting rifle, and VX-2 6-18x40mm for my varminter.

Good to hear good reports from people on their scopes.

I've got a Leupold Vx-3 8.5-25x50 Long range and I am hugely impressed with the clarity and accuracy of this scope . It's the by far the best that I have ever owned or used

The VX-2 and 3 are both tops IMO.

VX-2 seems about the sweet spot for price. Definitely can't complain about the 3's though if you have the cash.

At least a good scope lasts a lifetime.

A bit extra now is a better scope forever.
Dear Santa,
Please bring me a Desert Tactical Arms SRS-A1 Rifle in .338 Lapua Magnum.
I'll be good with it, I promise!
