I know about it but have never done it...

Ive seen a fellow do it (try to) at the range & took him ages, so i just count clicks--I figure its just the same as counting clicks-putting the mechanism back to centre.
To save counting i just have pen in the other hand & put a mark on paper for every 10 clicks...

Someone whos good at maths does this make sense?

My scope has 70 moa adjustment both windage + elevation so say for windage split it in half left to right which is 35 Moa and then i'm multiplying those 35 minutes into 4 (1/4 moa ) clicks each with is 140 clicks will give me a full 35 minutes of angle which would be be full travel from centre to extreme left or right one way yeah?

And then if i bring it down to 25 yards ( 1 moa is 1/16 of an inch at 25 yards? )

So if i need to move the poi left 1 inch at 25 yards i go 16 clicks, if i divide that 140 clicks into 8 i get 17.5 so that would be close to 8 minutes of adjust at 25 yards?

Where have i gone wrong?

If you have 70MOA total
you have 35 MOA half
You Have 140 clicks for half at 100
You have 560 for half at 25
Each MOA is 16 clicks at 25
You have 35 MOA at 25 each MOA is 16 clicks

Mmmm, I thought moa was 1/4" at 25 yards.

1" at 25yards is about 16 clicks

No problems when I first saw the post and thought I would help. I tried to do it in my head it was to confusing. I came back to it later and put it on paper or at least typed it out step by step.

If you have an adjustment range of 70moa, that is a total range of 280clicks if your clicks are 1/4moa. This is 140 clicks in either direction, or 35moa each way. This does not change at 25, 100 or 1000yd; an MOA is an MOA. What changes is number of clicks per inch at 100 or 25yd. 5" at 20yd is 25"@100yd, making it an adjustment of 100clicks or 25moa. This is the majority of you adjustment potential. Not good news.

I'd suggest shimming the scope or changing and the mounts. You could also sight in at your max PBR and learn hold unders at close range.

If your scope is stuck, you may have wound the the scope off its threads by over winding it in one direction, depending on how the scope is constructed.

When you have to wind a bunch of adjustment just to get your scope "zeroed" you're already in a bad place. You've just lost most of your adjustable range and it's even worse if you've wound on a heap of windage just to "centre" on target. Any windage adjustment used up to zero adversely effects the available vertical range of adjustment. When you've wound it all the way to either side you have no reliable vertical adjustment either.
Shooters who put a "set and forget'" scope on say a hunting rifle, sometimes get away with it, but , once you put a scope on that you want / need to actually use the adjustment for different ranges / situations ( that's what they are there for ) you are in a whole heap of hurt.

Must be the mounts\rings out of alignment.

For fear of repeating my self.

I don't think so old bloke, this scope was replacing one already mounted that shot fine, i just wanted a higher quality one on top, and it's a quality air rifle so very unlikely, going to take it back to the shop and see what they say

That's the problem with Chinese manufactured goods. One will be fine and then the next one is a piece of crap. I'm sure we've all been there.
Personally, I'm over it. The price is long forgotten when something lets you down badly. Sick of "quality" brand tools failing when I need them the most, then you find out they're made in China, even though they sell them as though they are "originals".

some of my rifles didn't group well, tried different/new/second hand scopes and had better more consistant grouping straight away. bought a weihrach 22mag second hand with a bushnell trophy scope in almost new condition. it shot very average.point of impact was not that consistant and i checked everything twice. bought and fitted a second hand zeiss scope with some good qaulity air rifle mounts and it shoots bloody awsome now. a important lesson learned :drinks:

Had a bit to do with people who have gear manufactured in China and discussed this issue a number of times with different people. It seems there are factories over there that make stuff just as good as anywhere else but their Quality Control measures are very hit and miss. If the company contracting them keeps on their back with a QC manager onsite then the end user gets a flawless product as much as one from anywhere else but if the company cheaps out and doesn't keep their own QC measures in place you end up with hit and miss products as mentioned above.
The problem for us end users is we don't know which companies keep close tabs on their QC. That's why brand reputation/awareness and after market service is so important. I steer clear of any brand that just springs up with 'made in china' on it; unless it is so affordable that it's worth the punt.
Such as Olight torches. I was dubious about them when i first saw them advertised but they had some good write ups and were 1/4 the price of other established brand lights of similar spec, so i took a punt. My M3X shat itself after a year due to a loose connection in the bell (i tested their claim that it was 'combat tough' by using it as a Cranial Impact Device on pests that were incapacitated but not quite dead [by the way this is the ethical method suggested in govt literature for culling]; it worked well but the jarring loosened a solder connection: as mentioned elsewhere, i have a tendency to test products to failure). The torch was replaced within two weeks of sending it off. No questions asked and no hassles or costs. Never had an issue with it since and always recommend them to people for effectiveness and affordability. By the way, I no longer use it as a CID, though. So, as for their claim to have combat ready bezels and construction, sure, you could use it as such but it might not work as a torch afterwards..... still, i wouldn't want to get hit by one.....

Sorry. I got side tracked.
