Amazing what a few hundred grams weighs

Post by Lorgar » 19 Jan 2018, 12:53 pm

For years I've had my cover-all rifle which is a 7mm Tikka Fluted Hunter, and Bushnell 4.5-30x50. The rifle is 3.1kg, the scope is 600g.

I'm doing a bit of a re-config of my gear and I've taken the 4.5-30x50 off my Hunter as I'm going to put it on my .260 Rem that's coming, and replaced it with a Leupold VX2 4-12x40 which weighs 310g.

Even though I know for a fact I've only removed 290g, I swear my hunter is about half the weight it was

Every bit of weight adds up...290g is not a small amount of weight either when applied to a hunting rifle.
It'll shoot the fleas off a dog's back at five hundred yards, Tannen, and it's pointed straight at your head!

Yes mate your right...!!!
My Tikka walkabout hunting rifle is apparently 2.8 kg's & the 4-16x40 glass atop is 510 grams...

Everytime i pick up someone else's hunting rifle, i understand why they are a bit stiff & complaining after a few hours of lugging it around...also understand why they miss if they dont get a shot off the shoulder within 20 seconds...fatigue from weight...

When they pick up my outfit on a long day , they usually offer to pay me to swap for the remainder of the day...
They also comment why im so fast with target aquisition...

Weight is a big big thing...
My only complaints extend to the size inconvenience of the 10 shot lucky 13 mag stickin in me ribs...!!!

Try the Safari sling. It helps.

Edit, I also only have internal 5 shot mags, they are flush with the stock.

You could be onto something here, how about carry the eski around camp for 5 minutes before you head off on your stalk and the rifle will feel like nothing

After much scientific testing, I have concluded that... If you can carry your esky without either half a dozen blokes (that don't drink) or a fork lift, you need a bigger esky.... :D

:drinks:
“Accidental Discharges” DO NOT OCCUR !!

An "Unintended Discharge" is nothing more than the lack of appropriate safety procedures or the failure to follow them..!

Nah it’s because the warm, mid summer air is less dense and can’t hold up as much weight. Happens in the gym too :-)
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.
