Well surprise surprise, something that seemed a little good to be true turned out to be just that,

Although listed as having a 12MP CCD sensor, when it arrived today the first thing I looked at was the specs printed on the side of the box, and lo and behold, the "12MP HD" camera has a 3MP sensor.

The confusion (bullshyte) continues on the 5th line where they claim you can take pics at 8MP, 5MP or 3MP resolution.

I'm no CCD expert by any means, but I do know you can take lower resolution shots with a high MP sensor, but I can't for the life of me see how you can take an 8MP shot with a 3MP sensor. Where are all the extra Pixies supposed to come from?

There was no memory card included either, but for $60 that's not a big issue. The fact that it is only capable of 25% of the claimed resolution is.

I wrote to them and did a Pauline asking them to "please explain".

I've never used or even handled one of these before, but the full second it claimed for the motion sensor to respond also seems a little slow.

I'm going to hold off testing it out until I get a response in case they dig their heels in and I have to sic the ebay hounds on them for a refund.

I think most do not come with the sd card. Cheap to buy on eBay. We will wait and see what happens.

What is the usual trigger time for the motion sensor, I have seen $300+ Browning cameras with 0.1 sec response.

I wouldnt think the trigger time is that important. Most animals are moving very slowly when there not under threat. A nibble here a nibble there kind of thing.

Further development, the seller has offered me a $20 refund if I keep the item.
Amazing how well asking them if their listing was a mistake or deliberately deceptive motivates cooperation.
I'll test it tonight and see what it comes up with.

Well the cheapo camera seems to do the job, at least well enough for my purposes.

The USB 2.0 socket is set too deeply into the case for the plug to engage so I can't connect it directly to the computer but that's no problem, the micro SD card came with an adaptor so I can put it in that and the laptop's card reader does the rest.

The pics are not world class, but considering that it will have cost me $40 when the seller refunds the $20 they offered as recompense for lying on their listing, plus another $26 for 4 rechargeable batteries and a 12GB card, I think I did alright.

The burglar seems to be the same cat I saw at the shearing shed, but with the CSIRO estimating there are 18 million of the buggers out there, who knows.

I just set the camera up down the paddock to see whether that visitor is a pig or a wombat, if I find out I'll set up on the veranda again tomorrow.
If it's the one I saw a the sheds, it's a blue/grey and black tabby.
Might make me a Davy Crockett hat :D

Yeah OB, it's IR. It luckily comes with a remote controller so the USB port isn't a drama. It also has a tv/av plug so you can watch any video you take with it on your telly.

Maybe in a few days or week would you mind popping a few sample pics up. $60 is pretty cheap so may get one

My Aldi Wildlife camera, model WK4hd (5MP) has "Impressively quick shutter release time(0.5sec)." And a "Wildgame" camera - "less than 1 sec."....

This speed works for me - haven't captured Superman "(faster than a speeding bullet)" yet but for dogs, foxes, cats and bush turkeys and bloody cane toads, works great....

PS. neither came with SD cards but the Aldi came with batteries.

I've been using the Aldi for stills only but no problems so far, other then wind and swaying bushes.

I usually double check that I've got in sighted on the target, could've been the problem.

Mate I think you will find you get more condensation on the coke bottle inside than any due making it hard to see out past the bottle.

True. There was condensation on the underside of the bottle.
I actually put it on the other night because it was spitting on and off and I don't trust the claims of water resistance on a $50 cheapy.

I cut the bum out of a green Aldi laundry bottle and used it, no worries re condensation but have it in the shade, keeps the rain of too. That's a fancy set up, tripod and all I just use a couple of cable ties - "tactical black".
