Toz-49 reloading dies

Post by Jamesb570 » 29 Nov 2018, 8:15 pm

Hi, Inherited my Dad's Toz 49 revolver and am looking to reload. I have a Simplex press and his 7.62 Nagant Simplex dies and while I have spent many days & hours reloading his Toz on a Simplex I am now getting lazy  I have recently acquired a Lee Pro 1000 press (or two) and was wondering if the Lee .310 Cadet dies would do the job in the progressive? I know the Toz needs to be loaded with wadcutters to achieve the gas seal & Bertram .310 brass with an inner reamed thin wall will work in the Toz-49. I also have some factory loaded brass. Will the Lee .310 cadet dies seat a wadcutter projectile? I have only used them to load protruding projies before and don't want to drop $75 on a set of dies to find out they won't load wadcutters! I am not THAT lazy and would just run the Simplex. Any help is appreciated :D

I know I'm a bit late in responding to this TOZ 49 topic, but I have just discovered this forum and joined.

Simplex make really good dies for the TOZ 49 , and my other suggestion is - Obtain a Lee M1 Carbine carbide sizing die. The M1 case is identical in width and taper to the 7.62 Nagant Short case - so if you use this die, you won't have to lube the case.

As SWT has said, call Natasha at Simplex Reloading & order two 5/8th-7/8th adapters & you'll be good to go.

I recently acquired aToz 49 from deceased estate. It came with dies, cases and a few projectiles.
Does anyone know where I can get projectiles for the 49?
Standard 32 projectiles will not do. They must be specifically cast for the 49.

Michael

I'm not up with pistols but have you checked the Lee site for molds? Lots of options/sizes

In 7.62x38R Nagant chambering?
What is special about the bullets?
A quick Google doesn't indicate anything unusual, just a 100gn cast bullet, but it does seem to have some variation in bullet diameter - .301" to .311"?
Have you slugged the bore to determine the required bullet diameter?
Would any of these work?

There is a Nagant Revolver group on Facebook that might have useful information.
