1911 magazines

Post by Kelsey Cooter » 19 Nov 2021, 1:07 pm

I've just slapped some money down on a colt 1911 9mm (series 80 I think?) It comes with 2 mags but I'd like to buy a couple more for Action Match comps. Any mags worth getting/avoiding?

G'day Kelsey Cooter,
Apart from the factory ones that came with the pistol, I use the US made Check Mate magazine. Of the 6 i bought they have all worked faultlessly through hundreds upon hundreds of rounds, Mecgar make good mags as well as Triple K both brands can be found at Gold Coast Shooters but I don't know who carries Check Mate these days, Cheers.

Mecgar make OEM mags for a heap of manufacturers and are good quality.

Tripp, Chip McCormick, Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Colt. Take your pick, they should all run fine.

Wilson combat makes some of the best lots of makers just make 45 mags work they will have feed problems.

I got a 3 pack of Brownells 10 round mags from Brownells Australia - about $ 150 plus postage . They work well.

To save making a new thread, where would I find timber grips for my 1911? Does colt use eagle grips?

I've got a bunch on Wilson Combat 9mm 10 rounders, I can't fault them.

Do the 10 round 9mm magazines always stick out of the bottom of the handgrip compared to the 9 round ones?
