30M1 carbine load data

Post by Bello » 21 Mar 2023, 4:48 pm

Hello
I am hoping someone may have some experience and or load data for loading for a 30M1 carbine pistol.
I am thinking of 110gr projectile.
2205 powder
a large pistol primer

Any thoughts??

The old ADI reloading manual has the 30 M1 pistol loads for AR2205 in 7 inch barrel .
110 Grain bullet , AR2205
Starting load 13.0 Grains powder , 1,461 FPS , 30,100 cup pressure .
Max load , 14.5 Compressed Grains powder , 1,602 fps , 38,800 cup pressure .
I think the 30 M1 Carbine case has a small rifle primer , you need to check up on that .

ADI have data listed on the website for 110gn bullets on AR2205.

Hello all

Thanks for you replies
I am trying to get some economical projectiles.
I have found some Speer 110gr at a reasonable price.

Westcasting used to make a projectile for the 30 Carbine, I've used them in the Tokarev and they ran OK.

Thanks No1Mk3

I contacted Black widow projectiles, and they do a 115gr projectile.
I have ordered a bucket load of them and will give them a run.
I thought I could source some cheap Speer 110gr projectiles, but had no luck.
The ADI web site uses a CCI 400 primer. I have some Remington seven and a half small rifle primers; I will do load testing with.

You could try the .312" XTP's in 60/85/100gn but they might be too fat to chamber so you'd want to try one first before loading a batch. You could also try pushing them through a .309" sizing die.

Hi All
Got my hands on some factory loaded ammo.
Will try it over the chronograph as soon as I can get to the range.
Will give me an idea on the muzzle velocity for when I load my own.

HI all

Took the 30M1 carbine pistol to the range.
Tried some PMC30A 110gr FMC ammo.
I put it over the chronograph.
Average speed 1377 FPS
Max speed: 1444 FPS
Min speed: 1317
SD: 47.9

The only issue I had was that the spent cases were hard to extract from the cylinder.
When I got home, I tried some other spent cases (that I had at home), of other brand ammo, that had been fired in that pistol, that was given to me with the pistol, and most of them slid in and out of the cylinder fine.
I will give the pistol a thorough cleaning.

Are the ones that were difficult extractions still tight in the chambers? I find that they're only difficult when you actually fire them. When I've tried them in the chamber later on they go in and extract just fine.

Hi Bladeracer
I have resized and decapper them all now.
My 115gr projectiles from Black widow projectiles have arrived.
I will begin load testing soon.

Were you able to solve the problem with the brass being hard to extract from the cylinder after firing?
Do you have any ideas on how to mitigate this problem?
Thanks

I haven't had it much but when I do have issues I start by thoroughly cleaning the chamber and lightly polishing the surface. In a rifle it can very difficult to see the chamber walls, in a revolver you should be able to see very clearly if there are any marks, pitting, crud, and such. One of my Ruger .22's has been having issues the past few weeks, to the point that all but two rounds of 75 failed to extract and needed to be pried out with my fingernail. I polished the chamber which seems to have fixed it but I noticed some of the fired brass has an odd stain in the same place on several pieces. Last week while loading a pile of mags I noticed that same mark on a number of the live rounds as well. It's possible it may relate to the ammo batch, but it's odd that only one rifle has any trouble with it.

Hi all

From doing a bit of research on the net, it appears to me that the factory bought ammo for the 30M1 carbine, is loaded for; the 30M1 carbine rifle.

This ammo appears to possibly be too hot a load for the pistols.
So... as soon as I get a chance, I am going to load some loads I found in the Lyman reloading book.
I will experiment with loads a little cooler to see if they stick in the cylinder.

Thanks for your comments/advice so far.

Unless you have a rifle-length barrel on the pistol I doubt it will matter, most of the powder won't even be burned in a pistol barrel.

But I would be loading to what the pistol itself prefers.
