Handgun over.45

Post by Adr1an » 29 Mar 2023, 8:25 pm

Has anyone had any luck registering a .50 handgun in Victoria?
I ordered a Desert Eagle in .50 without reading the class 4 description properly.
I assumed you could have one because I've seen them for sale here along with .500 S&W.

Would love some feedback.

Over 45 are usually held on collectors licences. See if you can swap it for a 44

I ordered a .44 barrel to go with it, will just have to swap it over and have the registration updated.

So, I will ask the question - What comp/s are you planning to use it in?

Metallic Silhouette, specifically Unlimited Any Sight Half Scale.
I had to look it up, our club is not that big so we tend not to break things into categories
or people would be competing by themselves.
I now know the category we normally shoot is Production/Revolver.
Sarco, I think you're credeting me with more planning than I'm guilty of.
It really was just a case of "I bet it will be great fun to blow steel rams away with an optic ready .50 cal"

Thanks for the replies.

You will have to make a sambar deer silhouette out of three quarter inch plate and see if it'll knock it over who knows might even be as tough as a real Sambar
maybe 1100 odd foot-pounds might just knock it over.

I believe over .45 cal handguns can be owned in Victoria by a pistol club but not members themselves. I've seen unlicensed people on YouTube shoot .50 cal handguns at ranges in NSW and QLD.

If you want a Desert Eagle wouldn't it make more sense to buy it chambered in 357 magnum instead of 50AE? As others have said, you should try and go for a collectors license.
