Liege 22LR Revolver

Semi automatic and single shot handguns, revolvers and other pistols

Liege 22LR Revolver

Post by DaleH » 17 Oct 2013, 9:59 am

My first post here so I hope I get it right.

I realise that there isn't a section on handguns but I have a friend (honest) who has received from a deceased estate a small Liege United Arms Co 22lr pistol. From the photos it looks in good nick. His options are to turn it in, licence it as a collector or sell.
Has anyone in the forum got any idea what something like this would be worth?

I don't think they go for a fortune.

$400 - $700 or something depending on condition?

Might be the harsh flash from the picture, but the steel looks a bit rough above the trigger and grip?

Any idea on contacts to sell it through or would it be best to try on used guns etc?

usedguns is one option obviously.

Otherwise your local store may sell it on consignment for you - You give them the pistol and they'll try to sell it for you, then take a cut at the end.

If you've got a local store that's big on pistols this could be a better option to get it in front of the right potential buyers.

Get in touch with a few of your LGS's and see if they do this.

It is actually a .22long not Long Rifle, that is if the inscription is exactly as your mate has written it.

.22L is a shorter round than a .22LR.

No idea on value.

Your right, It could be "long" not "long rifle"

I have been given a couple of contacts to follow up on regards pricing. I will post the outcome when I have heard back.

Thanks to all for your input.

P.S. - My mate is always asking me to get him more condoms......

In due course I'm sure we will add a 'pistols' and 'collectables' section to the forum.

Final update - following is some info I got from a local specialist in WA - end effect, with all the costs and hassle involved in a sale, the pistol will be turned into the WAPOL under the current amnesty.

"The revolver is one of the many " Suicide Specials " or " Saturday Night Specials " made by the tens of thousands around 1890 - 1930.
Originally American small nickel plated small calibre revolvers used for self defense, the Belgians soon got in on the act. They made enormous numbers of copies, of revolvers made by Harrington and Richardson and many other firms, undercutting in costs and quality.
Suicide Specials referred to the danger of using some cheap Belgian revolvers, they could blow apart, hence is was suicide to use them.
From the pictures it looks in quite good condition and would change hands for between $100.00 - $200.00.

Bad luck on it being a copy.

Kudos on handing it in for destruction instead of selling it though.

For $200 some people wouldn't.
See you on the firing line.
