New to pistols, Gold Coast Pistol Club

Post by Smokey » 06 Dec 2016, 9:01 pm

Hello all, I've decided to expand into the world of pistol sport shooting. If I'm anything like I am with rifles, It will be shooting against myself and just relaxing at home on the reloading table eager to test the loads on the range.
Do any forum members here have any experience or are members of the Gold Coast pistol club? The one based out Ashmore. I'm looking to walk into this with a twelve year old son as my shooting buddy.
Yes I rang them and the gent seamed very cool.
So I hope to meet some new folks :)
Any pointers? I know I wont be able to buy a pistol for 6-8 months or reload until then.
As I cannot carry, Or self defence, My heart is fix on a Springfield or Colt 1911 just because I like em :D

Smokey, I notice your signature says NSW but you mention a QLD club. Is your residence north or south of the border? Whilst I don't know anything about the QLD pistol clubs there are a number of pistol shooters on this forum that can offer advice or opinions on almost any pistol available in Aus. I actually own a Colt Gold Cup 1911 in 45ACP which is great to shoot. Great to see you're involving the young fella but don't be upset when he hands you your ass in competition :) My boy will turn 12 next October and he'll get SSAA membership, Safety course and juniors permit for his birthday present.
How's my posting?

Cheers mate, I live on the NSW side of the border. Not much SSAA option up here, none in fact. Dropped my membership when I moved up here ten years ago.
There is a Riffle club out the back of Murwulumbah but they cant handle the thought of just having a shoot
The club on the GC I mentioned is also NSW police approved so I can up grade my license through them apparently.

Huh? They won't let you shoot pistols at a rifle range? *scratching head* :unknown:

You can only use handguns at approved pistol ranges.

Blokes, Re read. I said "Upgrade" my license. I'm only an A B shooter and there is sweet F all option for a riffleman to use a range for general purpose up on the Northern Rivers or Gold coast. I live in a massive grey spot that the SSAA has not addressed.
So I thought F it, There is a local pistol range, May as well move in that direction.

Re Tweed/Gold Coast rifle ranges. None to speak of. Thats why the Cwth Games is holding their Shooting comps at Belmont In Brisbane.

Closest pistol/rifle range is SSAA Northern Rvers club at Casino. Both indoor and outdoor pistol.

I'm a member at the Southport Indoor Pistol Club, joined last year, also new to handguns. Decent bunch of guys, very helpful if you're getting into the sport. Once licenced and a member of the club you can go along anytime and shoot to your hearts content!

I took the young bloke along and did the try before you buy + first safety lesson, Was good fun and top blokes.
The 12 year old was amazed and wants to carry on in the sport.
Since then, I found out there is a pistol club at Murwillumbah. That's ten minutes down the road.
So we will do our training/licensing there. Happy days!

I'm a GCPC club member and can thoroughly recommend them as a place to encourage new shooters to take up the sport.

I'm wondering, is Murwillumbah Pistol Club any good?

Seeing as the NSW firearms registry is in the same city - you'd think there might been a keen bunch of shooters at the pistol club.
