Anyone on here got a Hema Hn7 GPS?

I went to use mine today and found that the bugger had exploded in the box.

That's a little dramatic, the battery has swollen up like a dead cow and burst the case open.

Anyone had something like this had this happen.

I have heard of older model smartphones being wrecked when their old battery had swollen and broken cicuitry.

It has happened a few times that I have read on the 4x4 forums.
Most take it to a dealer and get a replacement.

I had an old Samsung do it after many years, 1-2 with the phone spent buried in a draw not being used, no idea if that contributes.

Only had it happen once in a lifetime though.

Yeah this unit spent a lot of its life unused and discharged, probably didn't help.

They're a great unit with topographical maps for off road as well as on road use, but two big drawbacks are the poor battery performance and a maximum speaker volume so low that you have to bluetooth it to your stereo to hear directions.

It's out of warranty and Hema want a non refundable $100 up front just to see if it's fixable.

I can get another battery on ebay for $17, so I'm going to put the new battery in first.

I've often wondered what's inside an $800 GPS.
Now I know.
The sheet of 1.5mm gal backing the screen would suggest the manufacturer was perhaps aware of this style of battery's tendency to bloat.
