Hi Lift Jacks

Post by madang55 » 28 Oct 2021, 10:17 pm

I want one. Going to get one.
Which one?
Good ones Bad ones?
60inch 48inch? Do I need 60inch or will a 48inch do?
1050kg more than 1050kg?
I'm guessing 60inch, with as high a rating as I can get. And yes it will cost me more.
I have a 2010 Mazda BT50

Get the proper Hi Lift jack, no cheap off brand junk.

Make sure you have all the accessories to make it work. Additional larger base plate for instance is a big help sometimes.

I have one. I leave it a home because it weighs about 5 tonnes and probably costs me a few extra litres of fuel to cart it around everywhere.
Fuel is more expensive than gold here.

We’ve wrecked two Indian made copies at work. My US made one from the 1980s is still un damaged in spite of 35 years of abuse. It’s moved bogged 4x4s sideways, broken tyre beads, lifted farm machinery and tractors, straightened cattle yard rails, pulled steel and wooden posts out of the ground etc and it just keeps on going.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Cool. Made in USA and Canada, definitely not China or India. Where to buy? Locally?

I've googled and a lot pop up, but it's hard to work out their origin. I'm guessing the more expensive ones around $200 mark

I had a hi lift extreme ... lent it to a mate who managed to bend it moving a shipping container. I reckon he tried to walk the container sideways with it.
Not happy.
Apparently buying me a replacement jack hasn't crossed his mind yet :unknown:

I have had an Ironman 48" for 7 or 8 years. Worked it hard and no issues. Don't know where it was made though.

Seems the genuine HiLift made in USA not n stock and no estimate of when they will be available again. So... I'm looking at the Iron man or a Bushranger.
Oh the agony. I'm thinking don't spend too much now and spend more when the real deal is back in town. We shall see. Thanks guys

I have just made a bad situation good. One of my sons flew in from the mines and bought a Nissan Navara and promptly dumped a load of stuff at the front of our house.I saw him the other day and asked if we could fix the oil leak on the turbocharger as I do stuff like that and he has on sold the car for $2000 more than he paid for it.On the weekend I went through all the stuff and apart from the roof rack with a light bar that is now living on my jeep cherokee is one of these jacks you speak of.Its a terrain tamer and they are $135 brand new.Its a bit big for my jeep and I have a trolley jack but still a score. If you lived near by you could have it for $50 but its not worth the post to Victoria.More junk in the shed

+ 10 on that.

The chinese stuff usually is much lighter in OA weight,,,,,,,, but not worth trusting to get the job done.

That's a good idea,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, until you actually go bush.
Once stuck or marooned and really out bush,,,,,,,,,, a "few extra liters of fuel" is gonna be the LAST thing on your mind compared to a loooong walk.

Yes. There be bush i don’t go around here where you vehicle will never be retrieved from. Even bottomless bog holes.
But i only carry 2 track grabbers, a block and tackle hand winch and a snatch strap.
So far so good.

I have driven there dozens of times in the past couple of years, the last time about a month ago.

I was in the passenger seat cradling the dart gun. There was a vertical wall 3 feet high that we hit. I flew forward hitting the grab handle on the pillar, cutting my head open. The Mux hit the bank with its roo bar bending it slightly.

Luckily the driver asked whether he should "give it a bit" and I said no, just drive through steady. (We had already been bogged twice that morning).
