Squeaking Door Rubbers.

Post by Die Judicii » 14 Apr 2022, 9:07 pm

Does anyone have any suggestions re Door Rubbers squeaking.
I have one particular door that does it.
I've tried several so called cures to no avail.

My last was an aerosol can (not cheap either) of dry lubricant supposedly the best available.
It stopped the squeak for a whole of 3 days,,,,, and now it's back doing it again.

Anything that leaves a moist or sticky residue like "rubber grease" only attracts and holds dust and grit.

Silicon spray works well on those types of things. I’ve always got some on hand for different jobs.

Nissan Partol rear doors do it wickedly.
Iv used the silicone spray and within days it's squeezing again, iv also tried Mr sheen,

Iv been thinking about trying 3M™ Squeak Reduction Tape 5430

Edit : You've inspired me to look into it again.
Apparently self adhesive PTFE Tape is a very similar thing, it's much cheaper especially if your happy with a light brown colour.

I thought Johnsons Baby powder was an old school fix for squeaking door rubbers, could be worth a try?

O.O.W. >
Sounds interesting, where do yo get that from ?
I won't hold my breath about it though,,,,, The expensive dry lube spray can I bought is NULON PTFE Dry Lube spray, and that
only worked for a very short time.

The Germans make something called "Gummi Pflege" which is made specifically to refresh door and other car rubbers.

https://www.nextzettusa.com/gummi-pfleg ... are-stick/

One bottle goes a long way. I use it twice a year to keep my door rubbers fresh and pliable and to keep them from drying out or sticking in cold weather. It works for me.

Thanks heaps for that Mate,,,, I'll give it a go.
Have ordered two bottle of the stuff.
I don't speak German, but the ad pic was the same as in your link.
A couple of words (german) did make sense to me to confirm I ordered the right stuff.

However,,,,,,, if it turns out to be some sensual lube I'll on sell it to you. :wtf:

You've obviously never worked with "Air floated Graphite" of which I have a large tin of.
The tiniest amount on the tip of a finger sticks and spreads profusely.

Terrible stuff.

I would polish the painted surface the door rubber seals against.

Thanks, that's a form of "reverse engineering" that I never thought of.

There is a product that I've got buried in the spray painting gear (can't remember its name) but just 1 or 2 drops into each pot of
mixed paint solves that problem.
No more "fish eyes"
