Looking for suggestions re Gummy Clutch.

Does anyone have knowledge on how to fix a gummy/shuddering clutch ?
Yes,,, by machining the face of the flywheel,,,,,,,,, but is there anything that can be done to fix or improve it without actually removing it ???

You could sell the car and buy a new one!

Assuming that is not the preferred option, then fixing it will be necessary. And if the vehicle has a dual mass flywheel, then replacement may be the only option.

Yeah thanks GQ
It is an old 75 series cruiser, which is being used as a general workhorse on a property (not registered)
It still works fine in general except if trying to reverse slowly up to a trailer or up an incline. Then it starts the usual shuddering.
So, as long as you can more or less dump the clutch and get under way, its fine.

Old mate that owns it will probly never do anything to it.
I was just asking if there was a bush remedy that may have eased its ailment somewhat,,,,, seeing as I drive it myself sometimes.

 :D

My 79 series ute started shuddering badly when reversing, and I bit the bullet and had the clutch replaced.
Vehicle had done around 200k from new at that point.

Advice was that while it was smart to replace the original clutch with a heavier-duty version (not sure if we are talking plate itself or ancillaries - been a few years), it was likely the throw-out bearing that was causing the shudder, as the clutch wasnt badly worn.

As far as I can see, replacing the throw-out still requires dropping the gearbox/transfer off the engine, so still a serious job.
But my point is, it mightnt be the clutch itself causing the shudder, so possibly cheaper to repair.
But you likely wont know until you drop the gearbox/transfer out.

Yeah, good point you raise.
Don't know how far or how much ("movement" pardon the pun,,,,,, i'll get on this,,,, as it's not my vehicle.

Been in and around auto stuff most of my life. Dad was a ford dealer for 40 years. Seen lots of stories of not fixing something and hoping for a good outcome. Doesn’t usually happen.

Unless it’s down to very limited use and not relied upon, I recommend getting it fixed (as already suggested might just be a new clutch plate).

It won’t get better and it won’t get cheaper
