Nissan X-Trail for off roading?

Post by threeoh » 22 Oct 2013, 7:57 am

Hi guys,

I'm shopping for a few car at the moment for work and figure if I can work a 4WD into the mix for some off-roading/camping that would be great.

Won't be crossing the Sahara in it or anything so it doesn't have to be too hardcore, and it will be my daily drive so don't want it to be huge.

Will just be doing state forests, fire trails, those kinds of paths.

Nissan X-Trail is high on the list at the moment.

Anyone happy (or unhappy?) owners with some feedback on this?

Hi Threeoh,
Take a look at this forum site, http://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com

It will give you an idea of what an Exy can do.

I have a diesel T31 and it is great, I have taken it down tracks I used to take my Landrover Discovery and it handled the track great.

Clearance is their limiting factor, but for your intended use they will preform wonderfully.

The rear seats fold down flat with the floor so you can sleep in the back, as long as you are around 6' tall you will be fine.

Get out there and have fun,

As a light off-roader I'd say fine, the one complaint I would have (from journeys with a friend) is that when you've got a boot full of gear it turns into a bit of a slug.

Man up and get an old low tech Defender or similar that doesn't need men with sticky taped glasses and pen holders in lab coats to fix them.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.
