TOYOTA, "Oh what a mongrel bred ************"

Post by Die Judicii » 19 Jul 2016, 10:24 pm

Had a supposed simple job to do today,,,,,,,,,,,

Partners car (2004 Toyota Rav) needed new wiper blades.
She had been to Supercheap already and purchased the blades.

I go out and remove the driver side one and replaced it with one of the new ones.
Then went to the passenger side and removed that one.

Went to insert the new one,,,,,, but it wouldn't fit.
A bit perplexed, I measured the old one, and it was 5 mm wide.
Then measured the old one from the driver side, and it was 8 mm wide.

Unfkn believable.
I rang Toyota and asked the question.

Apparently the odd sized blades are made by Toyota for Toyota,,,,, and the expectation is that everyone has to buy "GENUINE PARTS"

What a Mongrel breed ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!
I've come to realize that,,,,, the two most loving, loyal, and trustworthy females in my entire life were both canines.

What w****ers hey.
You should be able to buy replacement heads for them and pretty cheap. Not all cars can but worth the look.

...and people constantly ask my why don't I sell my rattling, noisy old Defender and get a newer vehicle. This kind of crap is why!
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Many manufacturers do it, Honda would be one of the worst.

Get some aftermarket heads with blades, they come with a handfull of attatchments which makes them ' universal fit ' what some of the manufacturers want for just a strip of rubber is crazy

agreed get something like these bosch wipers last for a good while and usually better performing than the insert types.

+1 to these. My XR5 turbo modeo has these and they have lasted about 4 years before finally needing replacement. They are more expensive yes, but they are very good blades and last a long time.

If your worried about wiper blads being two different sizes your making a mountain out of a mole hill. Having to deal with euro s$@t is 10 times worse why the hell anyone would get one is beyond me.
