Runva 11XP winches

Post by Wes » 25 Nov 2016, 11:05 am

G'day all,

Anyone familiar with the Runva 11XP winch?

Seems pretty good online reviews mostly all around, ip67 rated when it comes to water which a lot of bigger names don't match.

95% there on one I think, just wanting some last thoughts to seal the deal.

I have spoken to a guy who sells and installs them. Top notch full warranty. Way cheaper than warne and the top priced ones and just as good!

I got that one sitting on my bulbar. Went up to Cape Yorke July this year. Two cars I was the one with the winch. The roads up there were very corrugate we even did the Telegraph Track. 7 Creek crossings in total with XP11 submerged all 7 times checked it when we got back home works a charm. Got it for the trip didn't have to use it tho. If you do get one get the one with the nylon rope Rope is stronger than wire but it doesn't like being dragged across rocky or hard surfaces just have an old blanket or towel to put underneath it. Rope one you wont have to worry about cable rusting and it will float in water and not as heavy. You wont go wrong with Runva got mine for $650 and since then price has been going up. Its the old supply and demand thingy if it wasn't in demand and selling well, price would still be $650. that in it's self should tell ya she is a good one.

Hey guys,

Bones, have you got the 11XP or the 11XP Premium?

Just says the premium has a new motor design but no specifics when I searched for it. Just wondering.

Wes,

I've just picked up and installed a new 11XP Premium recently

Good warranty and couldn't find a bad review of the Runvas.

Haven't put it to the test yet other than just running it out and pretensioning it. I'm going out next weekend and will come up with something to give it a proper pull.

Only little annoyance is that the supplied bolts aren't long enough for the bottom mount when you use the supplied hause. Mounting the top 2 are fine, but the bottom too only reach about half way through the nut.

Just had to go to Bunnings and get a pair of replacement bolts that were 15mm longer.

Haven't been able to bring myself to fork out for the rear bar just yet.

I'd love one with a spare wheel carrier and 2 jerry can holders, the latter being the bit I really want from it.

Equates to paying about $2k for a pair of jerry can holders though :(

I know right not cheap. It's costing me just under 2K for the winch and rear bar... I have a long range tank installed in mine so don't need the jerry can holders.

Long range tank not a cheaper alternative for me unfortunately as the jerry cans would be for carrying drinking water, not fuel :(

I was talking to the guy at my local place and he reckons the seals and everything are the same in the XP and the XP premium.

The XP just doesn't have the official IP67 rating but really is just the same.

So really just a bit of a gearbox tweak difference between the two he says.

Some more on the recent Runva purchase:

Last trip out did one relatively easy pull out of some mud, and a couple of roughly 2 feet deep water crossings (not hard work but just FYI that's what it's done).

But... There was a huge amount of dust over/in every nook and cranny of the truck after my last trip, and I think as a result the isolator has died. If you fiddle with it there was sometimes just enough power to get the winch to groan but not reel, or nothing.

Took the isolator out of the circuit and the winch is still perfect when connected directly to power though. I think/guess Runva just purchased some cheapies from somewhere, I think I've seen the same isolator on eBay for $5. Adding a better quality unit in time might be the go.

Bummer that it failed after only 2 months. On the plus side though Runva warranty dept has been very helpful and prompt. Replacement isolator being mailed out direct no questions asked.
