We've dragged 2 4wd's out of rollovers in the last week - they clearly didn't know their limits :D the funny part was I drove down the hill one of em rolled on in my BT, whilst they were driving the much re-veered Toyota Hilux with all the bells and whistles on it, poor ol pig dog on the back didn't survive which was a shame.

She was a wild ol track alright, but the auto with a ton of wood on the back made it down just fine, was surprised when we happened apon the toyo all smashed up. :unknown:

I'd have to say a decent compressor, drop tyre pressures to suit whatever you're driving on, and pump them up again later, or pump them up when you're towing or hauling a heap of crap. Also handy if you're lazy like me and forget to check your spare is fully inflated and only find out when you get a blow out

Small chainsaw.

I've never needed a winch, snatch strap or anything else other than a "if I go through there I'll get stuck" but I use a saw to clear a track nearly every time I go out.

From all the various opinions posted here, I think it's fair to say that you should never go 4WDing only with your one favorite 4wd accessory.

I'd say portable air compressor will get you the furthest.

(And the required bits to inflate/deflate the tires too obviously)

So, assuming you have a decent set of tyres, simply letting your tyres down, good line selection, and appropriate gear selection will get you a long way. So my first choice for an accessory would be a long handle shovel. Extremely versatile, cheap as chips..........

Recovery kit including compressor and tyre plug kit. Too many people go un prepared and waste those of us who ares time recovering them as well as putting strain on our vehicles if snatching is involved and wearing our gear out like straps that have a finite lifespan.Sure everybody gets stuck, theres a difference than getting stuck when fully prepared vs going with no gear or idea and driving out of their depth/vehicles and or gears capabilities.

Actually attached to the vehicle it would have to be winch.

If you're rolled over though the roof would be your floor and the cabin would be your tent.

So works either way really

You'd rather have a bullbar over better tyres?

What do you think made the difference here in terms of 4x4 kit? Did the Hilux looked like it should have handled the terrain as well as your BT?

I agree and its only the money situation that is stopping most from betting all the good gear. Right now I've only got All Terrains. No winch. Nothing else. Gonna rely on a bit of cautiousness to prevent myself from getting into something that I can't get out of.
