Lockdown project......

Post by brinny » 24 Apr 2020, 10:21 pm

Been thinking about doing this for a while....and with this lockdown we are having ....seemed like the right time to have a crack....
Making up a canopy for the back of the cruiser....Getting to old to be swagging it now....
Made up a false floor with insulation in it.....
Then built the frame....complete with gun safe and seperate ammo safe...

Made sure it fitted before getting to far advanced

Cladded the gunsafe and ammo safe with aluminium...
Image

Cladded the exterior with aluminium...and checking for size....Alls good...
Image

Got the right sized foam mattress...young bloke testing it out with dad...
Image

Now to line it out internally...fit the solar panel, exterior lights, interior lights, and even a battery TV....
May as well do the job right... :drinks:
Hopefully get it finished by the time the lockdowns over and get some use out of it.....

Forgive my silly carpenter comment, but nice seat cuts for steel...even if you can fill them with weld... :sarcasm:

I can highly reccomend a product called KingSpan AirCell" if you can get it there cheaply enough...just the 6mm stuff is amazing as a thermal break against cold ground or steel.
Even an off-cut under a thin mattress makes a huge difference...
Something you should try if you havent already OldBloke--just carry it rolled up with the swag.

Excellent job Brinny...

Good work. Maybe when I get some more arthritis I’ll get organised too but for now I just swag it ..... only trouble is last time I was hunting dingos sleeping out under stars I could not get comfortable because I kept dreaming of a big yellow trying to get under the lid of my swag and chew on my face .... I kept tossing and turning in my half asleep state not knowing if I was dreaming or not and I must admit it was a bit scary. Sleeping in the truck would be great in times like that .....the dog and I were always in a truck camped in the Kimberley’s in case any crocs were wandering thru camp at night

Yeh, I got some from my last job.
Havnt needed it yet. Swag is pretty warm. Probably in winter if i go away. I think u have mentioned it before.

Thats not my van, just off the net, but is similar. Yep it is limited where you can go but the comfort is worth it. And i get a bed warmer. Wifes happy to go away as long as the she has her comforts. Shooting is just one aspect though. Do other stuff too. Fishing, sight seeing, romantic walks. Lol

I guess it had advantages but i wouldnt make/buy a canopy for that purpose. I would have just bought a small/used pop up van. Say 12 or 14 foot. Maybe an Avan
