What gun to use? If it were just straight up bush survival - a 22 magnum. If I had to bug-out for an extended period of time due to social/economic/environmental disaster - I would use my bow/crossbow to hunt, and my remmy .308 or 223 (that can chamber NATO 7.62 or 5.56 rounds) for defence.

Here? Quite a while. I'm not a survivalist but I did grow up camping, and one hobby has been experimental archaeology since back before I knew there was a name for it. Used to hunt with atlatl and spear when and where it was legal.

Australia? No idea. Probably not long. I have no idea how to find water there or how to identify plants that are good to eat.

How many times can you re-use an arrow when hunting?

It must break after a few impacts with game, trees, the rest...

ll I'd need is a box of matches. Toss a match in the dry grass and wait for the bush fire brigade to turn up. Problem solved.

It's a near death experience on the occasions the power goes out at my place.

I remember when I was a kid and the power went out it didn't seem to change much, you just did some work or read a book by torchlight or candle.

Not everyone has a fit and goes stir crazy when there is no TV for 15 minutes.

Advantage skinnies!

 pay that one.

But on a more serious note.

If I had nothing but could find water, and the weather was kind, a few weeks. No water, your rat s**t.

With a few basics say, a knife, matches, & a .22 with a box of 50, double that, again assuming water and kind weather.

Most hunters would last a few weeks I think. You don't need to eat much. Might do some of us good.

No hot showers, no warm bed, I think I would make it a priority to GTFO and head for some comfort.

They have not found the Malaysian plane so maybe Tom Hanks Castaway was plausible if you could survive the landing.
