Camp food

Post by wrenchman » 30 Dec 2014, 2:59 pm

I tend to do most my camping in cooler weather or when fishing i was wondering what you like and how you guys like to cook it.

I do like my dutch oven but when deer hunting some foods just dont come in to camp like chile nothing like a bunch of guys trying to sleep or hunt full of gas.

I no there are a few normal like steaks or burgers after opening day of gun hunt we tend to have couple deer and we will have hart liver and back straps for dinner.

I just found sheperds pie a couple years ago and is great in the dutch oven.

Pre prepared little Pizza rolls always go down well with our crew, just heat in the camp oven.
Buy part baked rolls at the supermarket an fill at home put them back in the packet, keep cool until
Your ready to cook them.

A great late night snack.

We use a BBQ plate, 2 burner stove and camp ovens, just depends on what we are cooking as to what gets used.

We do love our Oven Pizza's! they go down a treat when sitting around the campfire, as does the Chilli Garlic Prawns, scones with cream and jam, roast chicken and veg you name it whatever we cook at home gets cooked here too. :D

Butter Chicken with rice is an easy and delicious camp meal i love doing.
The usual Steaks/Snags etc for a quick dinner.
Throw in the occasional vegies, i.e. capsicum, corn, peas, mash potato etc.
Fresh Tomato sliced and BBQ'd with eggs and bacon on toast. mmmmmmm

you can do almost anything if you put your mind to it!

Cheers,

Chicken or Beef skewers in marinade, wrapped in foil.

Get a flat rock next to the fire and sit them there to cook on the hot stone and flame.

Easy to prepare before hand, no prep at camp and easy as to clean up.

Baked potato in foil by the fire! That's the best.

Bolognese meat, cheese, sour cream... Can't be beat.

Cornish pasties!

The champion of camp food.

Precooked filling, wrapped in pastry kept fresh.

Sit em on a hot stone next to the fire to heat and cook the pastry.

Beef of chicken. Veg like potatoes, peas, carrots. Cook the filling and wrap it up in puff pastry.

I've been hitting the skewers lately.

Chucks of beef and whatever vegetables you like. Tomatoes, onion and capsicum go pretty good.

Skewer em on wet wooden skewers, hang them over the camp fire.

yep thats a pasty good food we just call them a little different.
If you were to hunt deer in the u.p. of michigan you could not stop and get dinner in a resturant that dont make them to go for hunters to warm up in camp.
