Wet / cold weather pants

Post by Wes » 21 Apr 2017, 3:03 pm

It's time to up the quality of my winter and wet weather clothes.

I've got good boots. I've got my eye on a Drizabone riding coat depending on how I like the full length one (haven't tried it on yet) or maybe their short coat.

I have no idea about pants, brands, anything. I usually were crappy stuff that's not so appropriate for a rough Victorian night.

What are people wearing?

i use a set of plastic type pants, tucked into gaiters or gumboots. Not exactly the quietest but does the trick..

I grabbed one of these from eBay, they have sets with pants also
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261682932758

Really good quality for the price, was really impressed with the quality, nothing that is usually an issue with cheap eBay clothing like zips and stitching which was a surprise

Ski gear. I've moved to rural Gippsland from Perth - the land of shorts and t-shirts all year round.
For months my feet were pretty much numb 24/7, I could never get them warm.
Then my neighbour wandered over one bleak morning and I noticed his boots and pants.
Ordered the same within the hour.

Otway Bushranger boots changed my life :-)
Within an hour my feet thawed out and remained warm the entire winter.

And a ski suit.

I was concerned about the longevity and expected I'd have to replace it each winter, but I wore it every day for months last year, in atrocious conditions. I even slept in it dozens of times. It has one small tear on the left forearm where the stitching broke, but it hasn't increased in size. I fully expect there's at least another couple winters in it yet. Very impressed with it.

All year round. He just likes them. :-D
Those Otway banger boots are awesome. I wear em at work and I'm splashing around in, making and washing up liquid fertiliser all day and go home with dry, warm feet. You can't wear them in the heat of simmer though as neoprene doesn't breath.

Yep. Actually if it was more socially acceptable I would wear them more often.

Just got myself a pair of Ridgeline 'Dargo' waterproof pants and used them once on a duckhunt, warm, dry, soft/quiet for stalking and appear very rugged, not cheap though at $170

https://www.ridgelineclothing.com.au/products/RLCPPS

Heading up for some wet stalking next thursday, snow showers are predicted so will know for sure how good they are by then!

I got one of these, pretty similar by the looks, maybe the same.
Very well made, as you said stitching and zips look super sturdy. I got the realtree camo and looks great
Not super quiet but very warm and waterproof.
Lots of pockets and handy ventilation zips.

Yeah that's the one, that's also the one thing i noticed is hunting it would be louder then other jackets, but that's from the waterproofing which I can live with

I'm hoping a couple wears around camp and a soaking or two and it might quiet down a bit, the "shark skin" could have potential!
