Wow, that model 5 does have nice wood. (Gave me wood!)
I’ve seen some pretty grain patterns before, I think my model 2 has a beautiful walnut stock but that model5 is something unique!
Has it had a threaded barrel?

Thanks for that Marksman, in the first photo it looks like a bull barrel which had me a bit confused. :D

I'm sure your son will get a lifetime of pleasure out of owning and using it. :drinks:

my daughter bought the hat from the US Stix

this rifle was a real project on the outside but a very good bore
it shoots as well as could be expected, probably better
my son loves plinking with it, never boring shooting a swinger with a 22
I do like these type of projects :drinks:

Apologies for reviving an old thread but wasn't sure where else to post. Just wanted to share my new (to me) 1978 Brno Model 2. My first rifle, and looking foward to putting the 50 rounds of SK Match I bought through it.

I just picked up a model 2 from a deceased estate, my Dads older cousin, 1966 build. It’s been neglected, but I don’t think it’s done a lot of work, bore and rifling look good, but lots of rust on the outside of the barrel, original sights, but missing mag. Any clue on how to remove the rust? It’s pretty heavy in spots, but I’d like to restore it back to reasonable or better condition.

Not sure on the best way to restore the barrel mate, perhaps take it to a competent gunsmith who specialises in custom work and see what they can do for you. (sorry I don't know any to recommend one to you).

There is a thread here somewhere on that topic. Use the search box. But for light rust steel wool and a light oil does the job.

I suspect in your case wet & dry paper then reblue.

Nice one mate, nice first choice for a rifle too.

thanks! shot sub 1" groups at 50m on Sunday, I'm sure it'll do better as I up my skills. Only complaint is the power of the scope, as I find it hard to see the bullet holes and want to stretch it to 75 and 100m.

What scope have you got now? The Brnos have a long throw on the bolt that interferes with fitting a scope with a large ocular lens at a reasonable height.
Something to bear in mind if you are looking at upgrading yours.

Beautiful Brno Model 2 .22 LR rimfire bolt action repeater built in 1969. Has been glass bedded but tother then that appears to be in complete original condition.

I'm 41 now, feeling over the hill already. When I was growing up they were the .22 to have really. I picked up a 1955 mod 1 in excellent condition. It has a Weaver scope on it. My great uncle had a 5 that he used to put rat shot through unfortunately that I was going to buy but I left it too long and he bloody handed it in!
One day I'll have a mod 5 to go with the mod 1

Currently an old Optical Light Works 3-9x33. I was thinking of putting on a Tasco Varmint 6-24x42, and keeping the current rings if possible.

Loving the BRNO love. I have 2 and love them. A tip for using the excellent iron sights on them is
Set for 50M.
If 25m aim half inch lower
If 75m aim half inch higher
If 100m aim 1 and 1/4 inch higher
Works nicely!

With which specific ammo?
The reason I ask, is that even the 1640fps Stinger drops 4.5 inches at 100m from a 50m zero.
I mainly shoot CCI Standard Velocity (40gn RN at 1080fps) and a 50m zero drops three-inches at 75m and nine-inches at 100m.

Just check, might depend on the brand of scope you're using.

On my '58 Mod 2, I have the lowest steel Lynx mounts available and a VX Freedom 2-7x33 Rimfire and there's clearance no worries. They have a small occular though. Only my opinion, but bigger scopes are just extra weight on field rimfires.
Its so low, the scope objective actually sits lower that the big rear sight, but as it's the tube you look through, you don't see it.
Saved me taking the rear iron sight off, and butchering the looks.
