Just a quick one. Does anyone know what kind of finish is on Lithgow LA101 walnut stock.
Is is oiled or some kind of varnish / lacquer?

I would contact Lithgow Arms to get the correct answer. I contacted them directly about 3 years ago on another technical enquiry and they were very helpful.

At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

mmm. The link does not say anything about the stock finish. Did a bit more digging and Lithgow Arms enquiries are directed through Spika. Contacted Spika who "were sure" that the stocks are oiled, but no further info. Asked if they could get back to me after they confirmed with Lithgow Arms.....no real answer. Simple request, apparently no simple answer. Let's just sit with an "oiled" timber finish stock. :|

Guess you didn’t watch it. Jump to 1:39. I’m telling you it’s an oiled finish, not laquer. The video showed it, up close. What more do you want? :|

Thanks guys, I did email Lithgow but no response yet. Does appear to be oiled in the video. (Finish looks the same as my oiled Tikka)
Either way, that stock in the video link sure is beautiful!

Oh I watched it alright. As you are an expert on oil finishes by just visual inspection, then I will leave it at that.

Actually thought I was helping by providing the facts backed by a video. Yet in typical fashion you get flamed for trying to help. Great forum this one. Toxic. :unknown:

They are lovely- thoroughly recommend. I waited for mine even they had laminate on the shelf. Worth the wait, and extremely accurate for what it is.

Have just put a deposit on one, even though I won't be back in Aus for another 3 months. Something to look forward to....
By all accounts they are well worth the money.

You started this with your sarcasm about "what more do I want." You started the "toxicity".
Like you, all I was trying to do was give a bit of honest input, but you twisted it out of proportion, in my opinion.Just let it go and move on.
