Browning trombone in 22LR

I dont have a picture but strongly considering picking up one I found in the LGS. Actually there are two going for sale, also one of their close cousins the Rossi 62 pump action going for sale too. Dont often see 3 old school 22LR slide actions going at once.

The cheaper Browning is only 300 bucks, the innards of the gun look great, rifling okay but most of the blue gone from the barrel.
The other one is $900 with intact blueing and newer wood and more inline with prices of these things.

Im leaning more towards the $300 one, if the thing shoots okay, not a bad deal.

Had been chasing an old slide action 22LR for years, what I always liked about all these guns too is their take down ability. Twist the action screw a few times and it just pulls in half.

Does anyone know much about the Browning and how it rates compared to its two cousins the winchester 61 and Rossi 62? I notice its actually lighter than the Rossi 62 , quite a bit sleeker looking

I have a Winchester 1906. It's one of my favourite rifles but it doesn't get used much. It's handy for showing new shooters how to clear and make safe a rifle that's not a bolt action.

Early models were made by FN, and the price will reflect that. Easy to see as it is stamped on the barrel.

I have the henry pump I guess its like the same. They are fun little gallery guns. What I like is they can shoot 22LR and 22short. I think from memory it holds 23 rounds of 22short and 17 rounds of 22LR.

Great for walking around plinking.

They also sell a 22 magnum which would be cool to have. 22 magnum pump would be very fun.

Mate I will use it, probably small game and trap/slaughtering. I had one of the folding chiappa little badgers for the task but its too inaccurate for anything but close range.

I had a couple Trombones, they felt like a child's toy, very light, sold them both. I have a Model 61 Winchester it is a beautiful, flawless action, well mad rifle. Get a model 61 if you can find one, a bit difficult in Australia

Fantastic fun little rifle.
If you're buying one to shoot, look for a latter one with the dovetail.
I bought mine in 1990 and still shoot it!

Must be something in the air my local has three of those rifles as well one in very good condition

Well I put a deposit on the one at the LGS. There is some play in the action, the finish is pretty bad, but rifling and internals look good. $300 is worth a punt I feel. Will post a picture and range report after the PTA comes in
