New .22cal rifle.

Hey guys.
I want to buy myself a new 22 rifle by the end of the year , but was hoping for some help.
I was looking at the CZ455, SAVAGE or RUGER.
I am looking to spend over $1000 dollars on the rifle wanting it to be very nice quality and super accurate.
old fashioned wood finish is my preference but that can always change.

I was also looking at the 22MAG or the 17HMR latter being possibly a bit pricey on ammo in the long run.
Just seeking some help on a very good quality accurate 22 rifle.

Not really any solid reasons, but for me personally i prefer the barrel be screwed in (452 ) rather than clamped in ( 455 ) that said if your after a multi caliber platform a there s nothing wrong with the 455. The 452 are getting harder to find and have stood the test of time

mostly want it for rabbits and foxes out in field and even a range gun. it wont ever be used on the back of a ute. want to keep it in good condition for aslong as i can, hopefully hand it on to further generations.

Anything you chose out of those brands will be fine for that stuff mate, savage and ruger have really stepped up their game latelly, i was looking at a cz in a manners composite, a savage fv-sr ( i think ) thumbhole fluted very nice but the mag change and trigger put me off that, and i still want a CZ but once i felt the lithgow i knew i had to have it depends on your preferences really, wood/composite, old school design, or all the latest wizz bang stuff

I bought a Weihrauch hw66 production -partly because the wood on the stock was so nice (not as nice as the tiger striped one in the advertising unfortunately)

I like the fact its different, the medium heavy barrel, the bolt (now its worked in) and the trigger (it's light mind).

I don't like the spring on the extractor clips (CZ and others have a band of springy metal that is more robust) and the cost of magazines (plus they're only 5 cap).

I'd buy it again though I think but maybe in a .22 mag

17hmr, you can reach out that bit further than a 22, fast and flat, wind will move the pills about but no more than a 22 better fox gun than a 22 as well give it time,whatever you end up getting will end up hanging out of a window or the back of a ute the extra few feet of height from the ute comes in handy

I have been able to purchase both the cz 452 in .22 and hmr.17 as tom said both are quite good rifles but the .17 steps out a fairway but it is wind effected and awesome on foxes.
I have had my .22 trigger modified with a spring kit and the trigger is now pure class and the .22 shoots beautifully .

No way can any bolt , lever or pump gun cycle as fast as a semi-automatic. ... not even half the speed.

I still regularly use a Ruger 10/22 and it will fire as fast as you can pull the trigger.

Might I suggest the Sako Quad? If budget allows. Buy the cheapest version (22LR) sell the barrel on used guns and buy the Lilja match barrels in 22LR & 17HMR, best of both worlds and with the Lilja barrel nothing short of a Anschultz will be as accurate.

The cycling speed of a 15 shot BL-22 has been known by police for a long time...short throw lever action.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

I would stick with .22lr to start, then if you need a bit more gun I would go .204 or a 22cal centrefire.

Yes, the .17hmr is a good rimfire round but ammo is a little more expensive and if you need something with a little more reach it becomes harder to justify a .17 over a centrefire.

I still lie awake at night wishing they made the Quad in left hand.

Last I checked they were about $1300.

Just get the 22lr and when you are ready for a 17hmr or 22wmr, buy the Lailja barrels for both the 22lr and the next one up. Effectively two rifles for around $2k.

Don't buy a lever at the moment . The gov has deemed them to be the new devil gun. I wouldn't put anything past them , they have never let facts get in the way before.

May I suggest a Anschutz 1416 dkl . Mine sure is pritty and shoots better then I can . They usually go for around $ 1300 . Got mine on special for a 1000 flat. There were reports of some ejection issues in the past but mine has operated flawlessly.

Nope, that is total BS, I have a 10/22 at the moment but have had the miroku version of your BL22 and it is physically impossible to cycle it as fast as a semi auto.

For up to a $1000, I just bought the Lithgow Crossover LA101 in .22. Build quality is superb, floated varmint barrel and accurate. I've only put just under 200 rounds through it and it has been a sub-MOA rifle with the odd flier.

My information is probably many years out of date but if you are looking at the CZ look at the stock, I bought one once and without a heap of duct tape and foam rubber to serve as a cheek rest the stock was useless with a scope, in the words of the great Jim Carmichael "You would need a head shaped like that of a horse".

I can only speak to the CZ455, mine is the 455 American. Accurate, handy and great value. Only short coming is the trigger could be better.

I thought CZ was supposed to have a pretty good trigger right off the bat?

Personally I think my 550 trigger was fine out of the box.

Some have said they found them a bit heavy and with a little creep though.
